Stray cat ♡xanico♡

This was requested by LukeOfDespair, enjoy! (aah sorry this isnt really fluff)

Xander and Nico were having a relaxing walk around the neighborhood. Well, I don't think Nico would call it relaxing. Xander  always nags about them not going outside a lot, so he got them to go on a walk together.

"mueeowwwo, maaeowwewwaorew"

"Hm? Did you hear that Nico?"

Xander asked, looking around to see what made that peculiar sound.

"Y-yeah. I think it's a cat"

Nico replied, staring at a bush where the sound came from.

"Do you wanna check it out?"

"Why me?"

"Because you're a pet therapist, obviously! You like pets, don't you?"

"W-well, yeah but I don't know why it has to be me..."

"Oh, well I can check it out if you want-"

"No. I'll do it."

Sometimes Xander forgets how blunt Nico can be because of how quiet and timid they usually are. They slowly stepped towards the bush as both hands searched it.

"Oh!"

The pet therapist felt a touch of fur run through their hand. With a bit more searching, a cat walks out of the bush.

"So it was a cat."

Nico said. They take care of the 23 stray cats in the neighborhood, but they haven't seen this cat before.

"Aw! That's pretty adorable."

Xander chuckled.

"Should we return it to it's owner?"

He asked.

"Um, I don't think it has an owner."

Nico crouched down and made an attempt to get the cat's attention.

"Really?"

"It's a stray cat. Its coat looks dirty. Also, what kind of owner would leave their cat here."

"Fair point."

Xander replied.

"But, what should we do with it?"

"I guess we could keep it."

"Keep it?"

"I-I mean I'll take care of it. I do take care of the other 23 strays here as well so it shouldn't be a problem."

"You sure you can handle it?"

"Yes."

"Oh, of course you can. You're a pet therapist after all."

Nico always keeps cat food with them when going out. They fed it and started petting the cat, which it seemed to enjoy. Xander observed, and started petting it too.

"It's a lot friendlier than I thought. Since it's a stray, I thought it was going to run away or even attack us."

"I gave it food, so it trusts me at least a little bit."

"You really know a lot about cats and animals, do you?"

Xander smiled.

"Mhm."

"How nice."

Xander softly mumbled.

He looked at Nico, which made his smile grow more. Seeing them delighted while petting a cat, Xander found it sweet. He looked at the cat, and then back at Nico, and started patting their head. They hesitated.

"H-huh?"

"You're like a cat too! Has anyone told you that?"

"Um, y-yeah."

"I'm glad there's other people who think that too. Your behaviour is just like a cat, shy and minding their own business, and even how adorable they are."

Nico looked at him.

"A-adorable?"

"Yeah! You're as adorable as cats, don't you think?"

"I- um..."

Xander laughed as Nico got all flustered. They covered their face and slowly stopped petting the cat.

"W-we can go now."

"Oh, sure!"

They said goodbye to the cat and started heading back. What they didn't know was the cat was following behind them. Maybe it liked Xander and Nico. It probably had diseases and and serious illnesses, but they had a nice time.
