"Ali girly, are you hungry?" I called out from
The kitchen.

"I'm scared!" She whined. Drying my hands with the fabric of my dress I made way back to my room to see what was going on. She stared down at Max who was asleep next to her, she stood frozen in placed with mortification.

"I'm sorry, I had no idea you were scared of cats. Come on Max," I apologized scooping him up. "I promise he won't hurt you he's a very loving boy." I love Max with all my heart. He's a true warrior. You'd never even know he's been through hell the way he still manages to love like it's nothing.

"He's cute, but he's scary." She slid off the bed to hurry past us. Planting a kiss of his forehead I let him down and was out behind her. "Can you help with my hair?" She asked.

With a smile I show her to the bathroom and gather some products. I don't have curly hair, so I grab my phone to dial her father. After figuring everything out I began styling her hair the way she asked. "Who Lana?" She pointed to a picture on the mirror.

"That's me," I point to myself.

Turning around with the biggest smile she slapped her hands to her cheeks. "You so pretty!"

My jaw dropped as I mirrored her exact moves. "Thank you Ali! You're so pretty too!"

"Can I call you Lana Bear?" She hopped up and down. "I'd love that," I say.

We decide to sit on the bed and watch My Little Pony for a bit before she gets bored. "I miss daddy now," she frowned.

"I was thinking maybe we go on a walk to this burger shack, I can ask if he wants to come over and go?"

Her face lit up as she nodded. So of course I grabbed my phone to invite him over which he accepted. We got ready whilst waiting for his arrival. It wasn't as cold out, so a jacket did the trick. Ali Insisted on bringing Lily, aswell as Sadie and Sparkie. They were relatively good dogs that didn't need leashes, but they were trained to kill.

"Where you two headed?" Pa peeped back from
On the couch as I went to answer the door.

"Just out to chit chat and have some supper. Here's Abel if you'd like to say hello." Opening the door he presented a big smile while adjusting his clothing."What is all this?" I took a good stare at his white turtle neck.

"They don't call it dress to impress for nothing. So. . . Like it? Or should I have worn something different? I can go change if you want," his eyes scanned my face looking for an answer as he kept on.

"And why would you do that?" I giggled leaning in on the doorway with a folding of my arms.

"Maybe you hate turtle necks? I don't know."

"You look divine. Don't be too hard on yourself. Come in, Ali is in the bedroom dealing with Lily." Closing the door behind him we head over to the living room to greet my grandpa.

After small talk about random things, life, and lessons. The room went silent before Abel dug out a question. "Is that your wife?" He pointed to a picture on the coffee table.

"Oh yes. She passed a couple months back." The room fell a little awkward til Ali came bouncing around the corner with Lily cradled in her arms. She jumped right into Abel's arms as she was more than over joyed to see him. We all said our goodbyes before heading out of the door.

Abel and I's hands were almost touching, I could practically feel the warmth as our arms sway back and fourth. Ali skipped ahead with Sadie. Sparkie stood right in the middle keeping a look out. "She asks me for a dog almost every other day." He chuckled.

"Ever since they came in contact it's been love at first sight. Your daughters a sweetheart."

"I try my best. I'm just glad she isn't giving you a hard time. Ali's got an attitude that you wouldn't expect to come from such a little body."

"She's definitely a character."

Stopping at a nearby park we decided on resting for a few while Ali played with Lily. "I hope it isn't soon to ask, but I was wondering is Ali's mother still in her life?"

"Oh, uh, nah it's not too soon. It's sorta complicated between us. She is here, but recently she hasn't been showing up for her like she should. She's been acting really weird."

"You're a strong guy," I placed my hand on his shoulder, "being able to still hold your head higher than every problem that's bringing you down isn't easy."

"I just hope things get easier."

"Do you think Ali would ever be upset if you dated another women?" Her warm hand slid off my shoulder and into her lap where her fingers would then intertwine.

"I mean . . . she's still pretty young I don't think she would care much. What made you ask that?"

"My mother passed a while back and my father moved on, but I just feel like it was too soon. It just had me down and I wouldn't want Ali to go through the same thing."

Wrapping my arms around her I pulled her closer. "I don't know what it's like losing a parent, but I'm sure Ali won't mind."

She looked over at me with a subtle smile across her fair skin and soft green eyes that glistened like gems. Her hand cupped my face as her thumb caressed my cheek. Leaning in our lips connected like pieces of a puzzle.
