I run through a foggy maze, trying to find my way out of this hell that use to be my school.. my breath is heavy and the air I breath in intoxicates my lungs with ash and dust, i keep running and running but i come to a stop, i cant breath anymore and my lungs start to collapse until my body eventually follows shortly behind..
I lay in bed, my vision foggy and every sound around me pierced my ears like a knife stabbing a victim, my mothers yelling, the birds chirping, and my phone alarm going off beside me. I sigh and sit up "its the last day. you can get through this." I get out of bed and get dressed, preparing myself for the full day of havoc that the school is going to be filled with. I blink slowly, trying to wake up but my vision is still foggy and everything still sound terrible. I hear a ding from my phone and look to see a message from my best friend, Marcus, reminding me to use that journal my therapist gave me, whatever.
Marcus: Don't forget to use that journal. I know you think its dumb, but its better than nothing.
Johnathan: yeah yeah, whatever. I'll write something.
I look at the journal and sigh, grabbing it and a pencil, I guess I have sometime to write something, Marcus is right; its better than nothing.
Dear journal,
Today is the last day of school, which is AMAZING! This school year was hell, more than the rest of the school years. Can't believe my therapist wants me to write in a journal, like it will help at all. "it will help secure your emotions!" sure it will, whatever.
but anyways, I've been talking to Marcus, my childhood best friend. the only good thing about this year is that he moved back, now I have someone more tolerable to talk to, I love my friends but damn, I cant think around them. mom's yelling at me to get ready for school, I don't even wanna go but I guess I have to.
see ya journal,
Johnathan Jefferson.
I finish the journal entry and place it in my bookbag, my mom insisted i take it to school because "mother knows best" or something. I stand up and head out my bedroom door and downstairs to the kitchen; where my mom was cooking breakfast and my little brother was rushing to finishes a drawing he had started while he was eating "i told you that you shouldn't draw while eating. You always end up rushing it near the end and mess it up." As i speak to my brother, my voice matches how I look, quiet, tired, and annoyed. My mother smiled at me and set down a plate in front of me, flashing a huge smile at me. "last day of school! aren't you excited?" i shrugged, just wanting the day to be over with. i quickly finished my food and stood up, i motioned my brother to hurry up, which he responded to with an eye roll.
eventually, he finished his food and we started walking to school, I put my ear buds in and ignored my brother's attempt to speak to me, i wasn't in the mood and he eventually caught the hit, he stopped trying to talk to me and just looked at the scenery, the same scenery we saw everyday when walking to school. I continued listening to music then it was interrupted by a ding, Marcus had texted me again.
Marcus: you almost here? everybody else is.
Johnathan: yeah, I'm almost there. make sure the others don't cause havoc or hurt anyone while I'm not there.
Marcus: aye aye captain!
I chuckled and turned the music back on, sighing while my little brother ran off in a different direction, heading to the middle school, while i head to the high school. when i get there, i see my friends at the entrance of the school waiting. Marcus, my best friend, Lillian, basically the "mom" friend, Arlo, the "middle child" even though he's the youngest, and finally; Dylan, he and Arlo are dating which makes them partners in crime and love. Dylan was almost back asleep and Arlo was making sure he didn't pass out from exhaustion. "he didn't get enough sleep?" I walked up to the group, Arlo just nodded, Marcus waved at me "took you long enough dude, you're slower then a snail sometimes!" He laughed and elbowed my arm, i just smiled at him "wooooow, so original" I rolled my eyes slightly then the bell rang, making all of us (and a few other people who were outside as well) late for class. we all looked at each other then started booking it to class.
