The Mugen Train was still that night, no echoing clatter of blades upon skin.
Flames burned bright red against the navy skies, yet they did not originate from blade nor breath — they came from debris, their plummet to the grounds setting the dusty train compartments ablaze. The only noise on the silent train was the low, monotonous noise of the moving wheels; not a single spoken word, not a single implemented slash.
Rengoku Kyojuro, Zenitsu Agatsuma, Inosuke Hashibira, Tanjiro Kamado, and Y/N L/N were fast asleep. And so was everyone else, blissfully unaware of the tragedy that would befall them.

You are still in this illusion world. Pitch darkness. Everything and nothing.
Thoughts of escape and whispers of confusion bounce around your head, moving from one corner to another, louder, louder, until at last the mutters amplify into screams. And it is too real for it to be an illusion.
You feel lightheaded, as if the oxygen levels are depleting. Nothing is in sight for you to grasp, so instead you grasp your only remaining ounce of sanity, of hope, and try filling your mind with joyful thoughts.
Your parents. Your brother. Wishing beneath a starry sky. Laughter. Happiness.
Happiness?
'Happiness', you reassure yourself. Yes, that is what you have. And you will be okay.
But someone seems to think differently.
"Happiness?" the question meets your ears, unnerving. The voice sounds too oddly familiar for it to be a strangers'.
A girl emerges from the oblivion, her appearance flickering like the blade had done. Light. Dark. Light. Dark.
Oh my. You immediately recognize who she is, and you waste no time in trying to force answers out of her.
"Why am I here?" you immediately whisper to her, a little too angrily, and the girl narrows her heavy-lidded eyes. The tremor in your words is painfully obvious.
"Happiness, you say. Do you know true happiness?" the girl asks, completely avoiding your question.
"I do," you respond impatiently, wanting an answer from, well, you. " I know raw happiness in its entirety. Where the hell am I?"
The girl shakes her head in dismay. "No, you don't."
A flame is blazing in your heart, white-hot anger. What does this girl know? She's merely the humanized version of a reflection, which is just odd to begin with. I'm the real me. "You know nothing," you seethe between clenched teeth. "Who are you, even?"
The girl pierces you with a stare, intent and unfaltering. "I know more than you will ever do. Do you know how to lie, Y/N L/N?"
You recoil in shock. "Answer my question first, and I'll answer yours."
She doesn't respond, but instead looks at you, exasperated. She takes a step away, turns on her heel, and walks away into the darkness.
"No, no, come back—" you begin, the will to fight slowly being drained and being replaced with something else — a type of terrified curiosity that you can't believe is brimming inside of you.
You grab the girl's wrist. Her skin is freezing.
She whips her head back, facing you, and you can see it. She is you, so different, so alike. She is you in every way possible, from the E/C eyes to the windswept cascades of hair draping down her neck, to the intensity in her emotion and the way she tilts her head slightly to the side when inspecting you.
