Vegas gnashed his teeth as he struggled against the ties binding him.
"You motherfucker!"
"Easy now, Vegas," Kan cajoled, "Remember the deal we made."
Vegas instantly stopped struggling but didn't stop staring daggers in Pete's direction.
Pleased, Kan turned his attention to Pete again. "As for you, I have men waiting at a little hospital ready to pull a plug if you don't cooperate. And you know the elderly are prone to falls."
Pete screamed at the top of his lungs, tugging so hard at the handcuffs around his wrists that he could feel the skin tearing. He screamed and screamed until his throat was raw and he was out of breath.
When Pete panted heavily, exhausted, Kan continued. "I'll give you privacy, but if you try to leave or kill each other or yourselves, I'll kill everyone you care about. It's a very short list, so I'll complete it before either of you reaches me or bleeds out. I'm leaving men posted all around the grounds and I have cameras installed, so don't think you're being clever. I'll have food brought, and you can have the freedom of the house, but that's it. I expect to see results within a few months. Don't disappoint me."
"You're a bastard. Do you even know what you are asking?" Pete snapped.
"Of course, I do. Now, Pete, I need you to call Kinn and tell him you're going to be busy for a few months and won't be able to check in."
Pete groaned as Kan pulled out Pete's phone and dialed Kinn's number. He wanted to fight back, he wanted to give Kinn a code that he was in trouble, but he knew he would only be signing Mae's and Yaai's death warrants. Swallowing thickly, he steadied his breathing as Kan pressed the phone to his ear.
"Pete?"
"Khun Kinn," Pete said, his voice slightly raspy from screaming earlier.
"What's wrong?"
Pete could hear voices in the background and knew Kinn must be in the middle of a meeting. He had to be quick. "It's Mae. I'm sorry, Khun Kinn, but there's a family emergency. I need to take a few months off. Is that okay?"
Kinn sighed, sounding perturbed, but quickly said, "Anything you need. Take care of yourself and do what needs to be done. I'll have someone else keep an eye out on the situation you were looking into. Now, I have to go, Pete. I'll see you later."
Before Pete could respond, Kinn hung up. Kan smiled and slapped Pete's cheek firmly. "Good doggy."
Then, it was Vegas's turn to call Macau and explain he was going overseas for a few months for work. Macau was upset but didn't argue when Vegas told him to behave while he was gone. That done, Kan moved to leave the bedroom before doubling back casually.
"I almost forgot."
With a wave of Kan's hand, one of his men moved forward as he pulled something out of his pocket. It was a small syringe. Pete watched, as the man uncapped it and pressed the tip to Vegas's upper arm before releasing the needle.
"What the fuck did you give me?" Vegas screamed.
"Just a little something to help you relax."
Kan left, leaving a handful of his men in the room. After several minutes, one of the men got a text message. He replied and directed the others to untie Vegas and Pete after reminding them of the consequences if they retaliated. Pete fell to the ground, his arms too numb to hold him up. Vegas leapt to his feet as if to throw a punch at the nearest man, but his father's words stopped him. The guard smirked, nodding.
