I woke up the next morning feeling as though I hadn't slept at all. I got ready for class with Hannah and prepped my computer. As we got ready, she shot me a worried look. I still hadn't told her about making Xander break up with me because every time I thought about it, it made me want to cry.
"Are you okay?" I glanced at her, taking a deep breath. Then, I shook my head.
"No. It's too long to explain now. I'll tell you after school." Hannah nodded.
"Okay."
Despite how much I loved history, it felt like the professor was just droning on and on. All I could think about was how I'd broken up with Xander. About halfway through the class, I felt a nudge on my arm and looked at Hannah. What? I mouthed. She nodded towards the computer and I looked at our professor.
"Did you hear what I asked, Miss Price?" I shook my head.
"I'm sorry. I didn't."
My professor looked at me, concern flitting across her face. Then, she looked to someone else in the class and asked them the same question. After class, Hannah and I went downstairs to grab some lunch. My dad had left me a note that he'd gone to a doctor's appointment. I picked at my food as Hannah ate.
"Allie?" I looked up at Hannah as she set a hand on mine.
"Yeah?"
"Are you okay?" I shook my head.
"Xander...and I broke up yesterday." Hannah's mouth dropped open.
"But...you two...were so cute!" I looked away from her, pulling my hand back.
"I needed to get him away from me, away from the danger. That was the only way." Suddenly, my phone buzzed. I pulled it out and saw a text from Ronnie.
"Get to school now. There's a dragon on campus!" I read Ronnie's text out loud and flashed a look at Hannah.
"Go! I'll cover for you in our next class." I ran upstairs and quick-changed into my suit. Then I zipped downstairs, running past Hannah. As soon as I was outside, I took off into the air and headed for my high school.
"Oh, my God! What the hell is that? Why is there a dragon on campus?"
The screams got louder the closer I got to my high school's campus. I landed in front of the school and saw a giant, red-scaled dragon blowing huge, blue flames up into the air. What the hell? Are fairytale creatures jumping out of storybooks now? I launched to the side, narrowly avoiding being burnt to a crisp.
"Hey, blue breath! Down here!" I yelled, waving my arms.
The dragon stopped blowing fire and looked down at me. Suddenly, it seemed like the dragon began to shift and change. I raised my arms defensively just in case it was going to attack me or the people running off. The dragon...looks...human! Before I could blink, a young woman, older than me, stood before me in dark red pants and a blue-and-red shirt. I put my hands down as she sauntered towards me, a smirk on her face.
"So, you're Shadowsnow, huh?" She gave me a once-over. "You don't look like much." I let out a soft growl.
"You've probably seen the news, so you can see what I can do. Don't underestimate me." The woman sneered.
"Don't underestimate me, Shadowsnow." I rolled my eyes.
"What do you want?"
"I want you...dead."
"Well, come get me, blue breath." The woman growled.
"My name is Lizzie Wright. Try calling me that!"
