Taehyun downed the last drop of his fourth cup of coffee that day as he unlocked his phone. It was already loaded with reminders, the little virtual calendar almost entirely dotted with events, events, events. His screen had lit up with a text from you:
"see you tonight :)"
He laughed, perhaps a bit bitterly. You'd always texted him the same thing just before a date. The fifteen minutes the two of you occasionally had to see each other outside whatever hotel or penthouse he was stationed at before Taehyun was swept up in a flurry of photo shoots again was anything but. Even now, lounging on the hotel's king-sized bed, Taehyun was scheduling:
Five minutes after you left, he would have half an hour to call a taxi to drive him over to an editor's office for a meeting. Then, he'd have to hop on the train about ten minutes early-
The door. Someone knocked on the door.
Taehyun shot up and made a beeline for it, anticipation bubbling in his stomach as he turned the handle, revealing your smiling face.
"Hey," you greeted him in a half-whisper. It was 3am.
"Hey," Taehyun breathed, like a sigh of relief.
You had to stifle the yelp that threatened to escape you as strong arms wrapped you up in a bear hug, nearly lifting your feet off of the ground.
"Tae, baby...can't...breathe...!"
Taehyun released his grip, bringing his hands down to gently rub your arms. "I missed you."
He didn't smile as he said this, strangely. You looked up into nervous eyes as they darted back and forth, as if searching your own.
"Can I come in?" you asked with an awkward laugh, breaking him out of his reverie.
"Oh sorry! Yeah," he smiled.
His hands didn't leave your arms as he backed up to pull you inside.
The cool air of the luxury single made you sigh as it hit your burning skin. You'd been walking around the entire day in a stifling pencil dress. As you sunk into the soft mattress, you smoothed over the royal blue fabric.
"Who's the dress for?" Taehyun asked with a teasing grin. You rolled your eyes and gave him a good shove when he tried to sit down next to you.
"It's for a job interview, if you must know."
The spot next to you sunk down again from his weight, and his arms snaked around your waist. That odd, searching look had returned.
"Is this...okay?" he asked, his voice low and subdued.
Your brows furrowed in confusion. "This...?"
Taehyun pressed his lips together, then nodded.
"This. I see you for barely fifteen minutes, you go home, I fuck off somewhere for the next few months," a small tremble made its way into his voice, "Is that alright?"
Your hands came up to cup his face, holding it in place so that he coudn't look away. His eyes had become glassy.
"Taehyun. You're being weird right now. Where is this coming from?" There was a firmness in your voice, like when you used to ask him if he washed the dishes when you were out. He never told you how much he missed washing dishes.
"I miss...taking you out to go to the movies. Or when you dragged me out to picnics," his voice cracked as he said, "and I always said I didn't wanna go, but I went anyway."
You brought his face closer until your noses brushed against each other.
"I'm not going anywhere until we can do that again. Understand?"
You pecked Taehyun on the lips, and something in him broke. Suddenly, his face was in the crook of your neck as sobs racked his body, shaking you as well. Your fingers run through his hair, freshly dyed a silvery, blue-ish platinum.
"Aw," you cooed as he cried into your chest. Warm tears begin to stain the area. "Babe, I think you're ruining my dress."
