The Ruined Kingdom

Chapter 1. The Appointed Bodygaurd

My name is Sulphyr Cora, I am going to be working as a bodyguard soon for a prince from the nation of Storms, but something wasn't right when I received my first task. I am accompanied by my friend Alex Myr, and Esper Ryu.

"Come on, Alex, wake up!" Sulphyr says, slapping Alex. He springs awake. "Hey! What was that for?" Alex asked Sulphyr, rubbing where his face was slapped by Sulphyr."You don't realize we are going to be late because of you?" Sulphyr asked Alex. "Shoot!" Alex says, stumbling out of bed, Sulphyr goes outside where Esper is. "Is he awake?" Esper asks "Yeah but he isn't even ready to go. We should just leave him." Sulphyr tells Esper. "Doesn't the train leave at twelve?" Esper asks. "I'm ready. Let's go." Alex tells the two.

"How ya doin Alex? You nearly got left behind." Sulphyr asks, fixing their hair. "I hate you for that." Alex replies mad "Easy you two, we're almost there." Esper tells the two "Yeah yeah I know" Sulphyr replies, they make it to the nation of Storms, getting off the train they walk to orientation for Knights and Sulphyr goes to the castle to meet the person they will be protecting.

"I want to go home.." Sulphyr tells themselves, walking inside the castle after granted permission "And you are?" A little girl asks "Sulphyr Cora, I'm a bodyguard to a 'Zian Costella' are they here?" Sulphyr asks "Oh big brother? Yeah, they're here, in the next room, I believe, and I'm Zina." Zina replies, pointing at the door to the next room "Thanks" Sulphyr replies, going into the next room after taking a deep breath.

"Sulphyr Cora, correct?" Shira asks, Shira is the queen of the nation of storms, unlike other nations our lord abandoned us, their name being Kiria. "Yes." Sulphyr replies "Zian will be here shortly." Shira tells Sulphyr, the prince comes into the room with a book in hand and a light capsule "Yes mother? Oh! You must be Sulphyr Cora! It's a pleasure to meet you!" Zian tells Sulphyr, shaking their hand.

"That's a weird necklace you've got there. Is it perhaps an amulet?" Zian asks Sulphyr "Yeah, my parent gave it to me before I moved out" Sulphyr tells Zian "but using it puts a strain on both me and my magic energy so I don't really use it." Sulphyr explains "I didn't know I'd have such a strong bodyguard." Zian replies "This is my magic capsule, a light capsule." Zian tells Sulphyr, showing it to them "Light?" Sulphyr asks Zian "Yup!" Zian replies.

"Sulphyr you should join your friends at orientation." Shira tells Sulphyr "Right! I promised to see them there, I gotta go then, see ya!" Sulphyr says, rushing out in a hurry, they make it there just in time "Alex, Esper!" Sulphyr tells the two "You okay?" Esper asks Sulphyr "Yeah, just out of breath." Sulphyr tells him "It's about to start!" Alex tells the two pointing at the front.

The three get their gear as they are now appointed as knight's. "They give us capsules because we got the highest score?" Sulphyr asks, holding their empty capsule "Yeah, but at least we can get stronger!" Alex replies, suddenly a red and blue light comes from the capsule surrounding Alex "A flare and ice symbol." Esper tells Alex "Hah! I get double magic!" Alex says, pointing at Sulphyr, A purple light surrounds Esper "Seem's I get storm magic, neat." Esper says "What about you, Sulphyr?" Esper asks "I don't know." Sulphyr replies, suddenly a black light comes from the capsule but changes into other kinds, Sulphyr is left with a capsule with a weird kind of magic.

"What the hell?" Sulphyr tells themself, suddenly a giant explosion is heard from the east entrance "That can't be good." Sulphyr tells the two, grabbing a training sword and running off to investigate. "A horde!" Sulphyr says, preparing their sword striking at one of the beasts. They fend the monsters off but are soon overpowered by them.

"Shoot, It's now or never!" Sulphyr says, reaching at their amulet to use it when suddenly a purple aura covers their sword, transforming it into a blade forged with the soul of a monster. "I guess this is my magic." Sulphyr tells themselves striking at the monsters "Sulphyr!" Esper yells, throwing a sickle at one of the monsters "Use it!" Esper yells "Right." Sulphyr thinks to themself, picking the sickle up and throws it as if it were a boomerang "Time for the finisher!" Sulphyr yells using most of their magic to create a giant burst of purple flame "Thank the lords, it's over!" Sulphyr yells when they suddenly get shot in the chest by a spear. It quickly fades away.

"Is this the end?" Sulphyr asks, losing consciousness. They wake up on a hospital bed "Ugh my head" Sulphyr tells themself, looking around "Where am I?" Sulphyr asks themself "Your awake!" Alex says with relief "Esper! Come over here!" Alex yells "They're awake?!" Esper asks, running in "What's the problem?" Sulphyr asks "You were out for a whole week!" Alex replies "But how did you get a wound in the chest? You killed all the monsters." Esper asks Sulphyr.

"So a spear flew out of nowhere and stabbed you." Esper replies "Nobody owns a spear in the knights." Alex calls out "Your Sulphyr Cora?" A man asks, walking into the room "Yeah?" Sulphyr replies suspicious of this man "I'm Yukata, your captain." Yukuta tells Sulphyr "You know you'd be dead if it weren't for me who brought you here." Yukuta explains "Yeah yeah but how did I survive?" Sulphyr asks "Heart crystals." Yukuta replies, not explaining at all "Alright then, anyways, Esper, what happened while I was out?" Sulphyr asks "Well after you were close to death, me and Alex went on a few missions, Who do you think paid for the bills." Esper replies staring at them "Thanks for that but-" Sulphyr replies before getting cut off "Life crystals only bring back Vitality. Your physical wound stays untouched." Yukuta tells them. "Think of it as a pencil. You make a mistake, so you erase it, but it can't be fully erased. There still is the scar." Yukuta explains while showing them the life crystal. "Normally these are only used for emergencies as it takes away ten years from your lifetime, but whatever hit you damaged your internal organs, which the life crystal can heal." Yukuta explains more. "I see." Sulphyr replies "You should get to training, you know, you're only allowed to go on missions once you beat your mentor." Esper explains holding up a sword "This is yours, right?" Esper asks "Yeah, it has that symbol on my magic capsule." Sulphyr replies, taking the sword. "Let's get going, then alright, I'll go easy on you, you're still healing" Yukuta tells them as they walk to the training grounds.

"You want the first hit?" Yukuta asks "No." Sulphyr replies as they ready their sword "Your loss." Yukuta replies quickly, striking at Sulphyr. "No it's yours." Sulphyr replies, jumping back, covering their sword with magic, sending slashes of magic towards Yukuta "You learn fast." Yukuta tells them, blocking the slashes "Yeah, so what!" Sulphyr replies, going to slash them. However, it seems like the wind is blowing harder. "I am not leaving until I win." Sulphyr tells him, summoning a huge gust of wind. "What the hell?!" Yukuta yells, falling back due to the wind. "I win." Sulphyr says, standing where Yukuta is on the floor pointing their sword to his head. "How did you pull that off?" Yukuta asks, looking at their magic capsule, it shines with a light blue hue "Seems like the winds were in your favor." Yukuta mumbles to himself. "Well, you win." Yukuta tells Sulphyr, still confused about the wind magic.

"You won?!" Esper and Alex asks surprised that they beat Yukuta first try. "Yeah?" Sulphyr replies, sipping their tea. "It took us a few tries to beat him! And you beat him on the first try?!" Alex asks, slamming his hands on the table "Okay, so?" Sulphyr asks as they finish their tea.

In another place. "Lucille, what the hell! You can't mess with mortals!" An individual yells at her "So? I have a bad feeling about them." Lucille replies, creating a spear made of darkness. "And what hunch do you support this with?" Kirya asks "Take that damn soul kids magic and piss off!" Lucille yells at them "That'd be pointless Lucille, Miora what's happening as of now." Kirya asks "Someone used a new element and gained wind magic, Lucille tried to kill them." Miora replies "Because they were too powerful! The great corruption is at their hands!" Lucille warns them. "What bull is she spouting now?" A lady asks while walking in. "Ah, Willow, you're out of the plant domain?" Miora asks.
    

"You know how much of a hassle it is to keep the corruption at bay." Willow replies angered but with no facial expression. "At least your creation is helping, right?" Miora asks. "I guess." Willow replies. "Hey, don't ignore me -" Lucille gets cut off "Okay you know what, everyone, go back to your nations. We will talk about it next time." Miora tells the group. "Okay, fine," Lucille replies, leaving "bye." Willow and Kirya reply, leaving too. "Just another day." Miora tells himself.
