Chapter 6: A New Acquaintance

Gail and I are currently inside the car. We're quite a distance away from the school since I don't want to be seen hitching a ride with him. Today will be our first day in this school. It's quite big and crowded, but what's really on my mind is the hospital just across the street. It's more like a clinic because it's smaller compared to regular hospitals. That's where we can find our only lead at the moment.

"Hey, when are you gonna come inside?" Narinig ko si Madeline sa earpiece na binigay niya sa'min. When she suggested earlier na gumamit kami ng earpiece for easier communication, I immediately questioned it. I thought it was already a dead giveaway. I mean, wearing an earpiece would make it too obvious that we're up to something.

"We should each use an earpiece. It helps to easily contact each other." Madeline said while working on my disguise.

We're in her condo right now. She decided to alter only my nose with some... I think she said latex? Or was it wax? I have no idea. I just wish this won't damage my face. Although, she didn't warn me about it whatsoever. So it should be fine, right? She also prepared some nerdy glasses I can use. I thought it was kind of cliché because that's literally every superheroes' disguise, but when I tried it on and looked at the mirror, I looked different. My eyes appeared smaller, pero wala naman siyang grado.

Back to what she was saying, an earpiece? Seriously?

"Wouldn't that be too visible? I mean, we're supposed to secretly spy on something, not let the world know," I remarked.

"Well, we can work it out. They don't have to know it's an earpiece." Madeline replied looking as calm as ever.

"How-" Oh. I get it now. "Oh. I see."

"Exactly," sagot ni Madeline at pinagpatuloy ang ginagawa.

"Uh, girls? Mind telling me what's going on? Hindi na ba ako parte ng grupo?" Gail suddenly sprang out of nowhere, scratching his head.

"Madeline suggested we use an earpiece for better communication," simpleng sagot ko.

"Okay? Wouldn't that be obvious?"

"We make it look subtle. For example, you could use a headphone as an earpiece. People wouldn't think much of it since they would just think it's part of your outfit."

I must say, Madeline is really clever.

"Should we have it made as soon as possible? I can call someone." This guy really has a lot of connections.

"No need. It's already here." Madeline pointed at her living room table. She really wasn't kidding. There's the wireless headphones and what looks like a hearing aid.

She's smart too.

"Nandito na agad? Ang bilis! Kailan mo lang pinahanda?" tanong ni Cohen na manghang-mangha. He immediately inspected the headphones and tried it on.

"Remember last time when I said I had something urgent? That is what I fetched. I know someone and he said it was ready." She said while finishing up my look.

There's something else I noticed too. There were only two earpieces.

"Uhm, I'm assuming the hearing aid is what I'll use, but what about you? I don't see anything else on the table."

"That's 'cause I'm already wearing it."
