First Day

I groaned and buried my head beneath my pillow as the screeching of my alarm clock woke me up. I reached my hand out and smacked it, making it finally shut up. I waited a few minutes, debating whether I really wanted to get up, pretending I had a choice. I sat up and sighed, wiping the sleep from my eyes. I walked to the bathroom, my eyes barely open and went inside. I did my business and brushed my teeth to get rid of the morning breath. I splashed some cold water on my face to wake me up.

Finally, I could move around without feeling like I was going to fall back asleep standing up. I opened the bathroom door to see Bella standing in front of me in sweats and a baggy shirt. She looked even worse than me, her hair was a mess and there were bags under her eyes. I nodded to her, and she did the same as we passed each other. Clearly, she's not fully awake either.

I returned to my room and got dressed for school. I decided to wear my black jeans that had holes in the knees, a black and white plaid shirt that was far too big on me since it belonged to Paul, and my old black and white converse. I've had them since I was twelve and I can't believe they lasted this long. I grabbed a matching black bra and panties before putting the outfit on. I rolled the sleeves up, so they rested below my elbows. Afterwards, I braided my hair into two pig tails and put on a black beanie and my shoes and socks. I grabbed my black canvas bag that I always carry with me everywhere and stuffed my sketchbook and phone into it. It was a gift from Paul a year ago when he saw how uncomfortable it was to carry a big heavy backpack around. Plus, half my stuff never fit so I ended up carrying at least my sketchbook and a textbook from school.

I placed the strap of my bag around my shoulder and went downstairs into the kitchen. Dad was already sitting at the table reading a newspaper. I dropped my bag beside my chair as I said good morning to dad who answered the same way and went to the fridge to get the milk. I made myself a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch cereal before putting the milk away and plopping into my chair to eat. Bella came downstairs when I was halfway through my cereal. She paused at the entry surveying us before she walked all the way inside and sat down at the only chair left.

It used to be there were only two chairs around the table, for me and dad, but when Paul started hanging around a lot here a few years ago dad added another. I'm not sure if our small table can fit a fourth chair though.
