Friday, September 1st, 1972

He took a deep breath as he prepared himself to run through the barrier to platform 9 and 3/4 for the first time.

His mother had smothered him with hugs and kisses and farewells. His father had given him a good pat on the shoulder and a small handful of coins for the sweet trolly.

Bartemius Crouch Jr ran through the barrier, closely followed by his parents. Mr Crouch had to hold his wife back to stop her from running to her son.

Barty gave his parents one last smile and got on the train. He hauled his trunk along with him, searching for an empty compartment.

He found one near the back of the train, and put his newly polished trunk on the overhead shelf. He twirled his wand as he waited for other students to begin boarding.

For fear of being late, his father insisted on being two hours early. Barty thought it was insane. Nobody was going to be arriving at 9am on a Friday.

Or so he thought. Soon after he'd boarded, he saw a family arrive on the platform. Barty recognized them as the Black family. He'd been to multiple of their Christmas parties, being pureblood and all.

"Bloody hell" he murmured to himself when the older of the Black's two sons spotted him in the window. Barty had met the older one only once, but found he wasn't fond of him.

He was loud (louder than Barty), obnoxious, arrogant, and quite enjoyed pissing off his parents. The younger of the two though, Barty didn't recognize. He'd never met him before. To be honest, he didn't know the Black's had two sons.

Barty slumped down in his compartment seat to avoid his face being shown through the train window. It was too late though.

He heard footsteps get closer and closer to his compartment, occasionally stopping to (he assumed) check other compartments.

Unfortunately for Barty, Sirius Black poked his head through the door of his compartment and grinned. "Hello, Crouchie" he said. He let himself in, and sat across from Barty.

The younger boy followed him in, his head down. His hair was neat and slicked back, unlike his brother's, whose hair was loose and hung wildly.

"Piss off, don't call me that," Barty snarled. Sirius put his hands up next to his head in defence. "What do you want?".

"Mother and father wanted me to introduce you and my brother," Sirius sighed. "Reggie meet Crouchie, Crouchie meet Reggie. Get acquainted. I'm leaving" Sirius stood up and left the compartment.

"Reggie?" Barty asked.
"Crouchie?" The boy asked in response. He lifted his head up and grinned. The same grin that his brother had. Oh Merlin Barty thought to himself, is he gonna be like Sirius?.

"I'm Regulus" he said and held his hand out. "Bartemius" Barty replied, taking his hand and shaking it.

"Our parents were horrid at picking names" Regulus laughed quietly. Barty returned the laugh.

Regulus sat down on the opposite side of the compartment. He lifted his legs up and had his back against the wall, his arms wrapped around his knees.

"So. What's your favourite colour?".
