VISION

Bruce yawned, forcing himself to stay awake. Nyla and he had stayed up for what seemed like hours investigating, the sound of the clock ticking horrified them. The date was yet to be found, The next killing could be in a few hours or right now. Nyla had looked over everything not missing a single detail he had left behind, looking at the photos of the crime scene again and again but nothing. She kept asking herself what she had missed, was the answer lying in front of her. Nyla went through the photos of Hannah's apartment which was the crime scene again. She knew he'd leave a hint behind, but where?
He was organized and paid attention to each detail he left behind. Where did he plant it tho?
He wouldn't hide it, he wants his work to be seen. He would've placed it somewhere people could see it but not have any suspicion towards it. But did he really?
Bruce had gone through each social media platform she was on, yet nothing seemed off. Bruce showed Nyla Hannah's recent post which was about 5 days ago, She looked at it and saw Hannah who seemed the happiest, she had no idea what was coming her way, Nyla was filled with an insane amount of guilt.
When the sound of Bruce's loud snoring interrupted her, He had fallen asleep already. Nyla covered him with a jacket, patting him saying "Good work". She looked at the time again, it seemed like time flew by. Nyla was stressed, she had to find the date before another life like Hannah's was taken unrightfully. Nyla looked at other pictures she had uploaded the same day, she couldn't help but feel the guilt. When her eyes fell on Hannah's desk which was right behind her, Nyla felt that something was odd. Looking at the pictures taken from the crime scene, she looked at one of them which had her desk in it. It was odd...
The books, the pencil, everything on her table were kept the same way, except there was a flashlight. Nyla looked at the picture Hannah had uploaded again to find that there wasn't a flashlight.
Nyla thought about it "If Hannah went missing that night then who?..."
Nyla knew something was wrong, why would he leave a flashlight behind? She had to go there and find out the reason quickly. But at this hour? It was impossible and time was ticking. Nyla grabbed her coat, slowly making her way out of the room trying not to wake Bruce up. Nyla finally reached Hannah's apartment, she wondered how she would get in. Would she have to break in? When she realized she wouldn't have to. The door Knob seemed loose as if someone had broken it, pushing the door slightly and it opened. Nyla took a flashlight out along with her gun, Did someone break in before her? Who?
Cautiously making her way in, she looked around the house. Yet there were no traces of someone being there, She took a deep breath before she opened the door to Hannah's room as Nyla barged in. No one was there. She had to be quick, Nyla saw the flashlight that was sitting on the table. Picking it up, it was odd. Why leave a flashlight as a hint?
Nyla opened the socket where the batteries would be placed, how odd there were no batteries. But there was something else, a folded paper. Nyla took it out, as she read it
"Brightness hides what can be seen in the dark"
"Batteries left drawer of the table"
Nyla stood there, feeling uneasy as if someone was watching her. Yet she knew she had to be quick. Nyla Opened the drawer on the left side to see that there were batteries placed there. She held the flashlight in her hands, wondering what to do with it.
When she heard a loud bang, quickly took her gun out. Her heart racing fast, but she stayed alert. Turning back slowly, was there someone else present? Pointing her gun as she turned, when she saw a rat pass by it probably must've knocked something over. Nyla turned back to see the light pointing in a direction, she must've left it on. She walked over to turn it off when she saw paint glowing on the wall, Nyla held the flashlight following the stains. It led to the top of the wall and ended. Nyla turned it off, yet she sensed something was off. Slowly looking up, staring at the ceiling. Nyla grabbed the flashlight turning it on, pointing it towards the ceiling.
"Found it..."
She starred in horror...
When her phone rang, an unknown number. Was it him? She picked up.
"About time you found it...Nyla.
What pretty curtains aren't they?"
Nyla looked behind opening the curtains, she looked at a silhouette standing at a distance, staring right at her. The call disconnected, Nyla let out a sigh, shivers ran down her spine.
It went silent,
As they both stared at each other...

He stood there through the darkness, staring at her. "You haven't changed one bit, Nyla.." he said with a wicked smirk on his face, tilting his head as his smirk vanished.

Run faster, there's no salvation for you.
