❦❦❦

That same night you laid awake in your bed unable to fall asleep. The honking of cars and roaring of engines were faint in the background of your mind as you stared at the ceiling above you.

The night repeated in your head, specifically the kiss you and Eren had shared. You didn't know why you kept going back to him, but you couldn't stop. The words he had said replayed countlessly in your mind, one time thing. After being introduced to a side of him that showed that he cared about things other than himself, he shut you back out and plastered over the wall that had slowly begun to crack.

You needed him out of your mind, which was quite hard to do considering you had to see him almost every day. You needed to go back to being your usual sporadic self and get yourself out there. There'd been times when Sasha or Imani would invite you out but you had to decline because of the amount of work you had to complete, but you had no intent on using that as an excuse any longer.

As you laid on your back you couldn't help but think about the break through you thought you were making with Eren. You let out a frustrated groan into your pillow. You didn't know why you were so intent on figuring him out, especially since you didn't really like him, or at least that's what you'd been telling yourself.

A chime sounded from your phone that sat face down on the night stand. You turned your body so that your stomach was flat on the bed and reached over to look at your phone. Your eyes widened at the notification and a smile crept onto your face as you read the messages on the screen.

Connie
How do you feel about barbecue?

You're asking me about food
at 2am? Kind of late for a meal,
right?

A man can't think ahead about
his friend-date with a lovely
woman?

You're funny. It's good, but
also messy

Mexican?

Not my favorite

I'm offended y/n. I'll make
you like Mexican. But until
then.. Pasta?

Perfect.

Good, it's a date. I'll see you
Friday night. Goodnight y/n

Goodnight Connie

You read over the messages again and smiled to yourself. Hanging out with a friend was just the thing you needed right now. This friend-date, as Connie called it, would be a good way to start your dating life back up.

You went to sleep that night peacefully after your brief conversation with Connie, although parts of your mind continued to flash back to the one man with the voice of warmth and darkness that you tried so desperately to cleanse from your mind.

The next few days of work went just as you'd imagined. Both you and Eren did everything in your power to avoid each other, but the universe was obviously working against you.
