5 - Finn's House

As soon as the bell rings for final period, I dart out of the school immediately. Today is the day - Finn invited me over to rehearse at his house. I can't screw this up, this could be my only chance to get him but at the same time, I could ruin it all and destroy my... relationship with Rachel. I made sure to take extra pride in my appearance today with my dainty silver jewellery and embroidered low-rise jeans. I braided part of the front of my hair into a twist and left the rest down.
As I gather my thoughts, I hear a honk from the parking lot,
"Hey get in!" Finn rolls down the window of his truck and waves, signalling me to come over to his car. I blush and eagerly walk to his car, trying to contain my smile. I get in the front and put my seatbelt on and he begins to drive.
We sit in silence for a moment before Finn turns on the radio.
"Have you thought of a song for our duet yet?" He asks
"Uhm... I was thinking maybe Iris by the G-"
"I love that song," He grins, "Absolutely."
"Awesome, so now we have something to practice!"

We pull into the driveway and he parks his truck. He takes me inside and straight to his room, shutting the door behind him. I look up, the walls covered in old movie posters and pictures from his football games. A picture by his bedside, A man in an army suit smiling, holding a baby tightly in his arms looking like the happiest man in the world.
"Who is that?" I carefully pick up the picture frame
"That's my dad.. he uh passed away when i was a baby. That's me that he's holding."
"Oh, I'm sorry" I say
"It's alright.."
There's a silence. I sit on the corner of his bed and stare at the drum kit in the corner. I've heard him play in Glee, he's amazing.
He turns on the radio in his room and switches channels until he is satisfied.
"I really can't be bothered rehearsing" He sighs, looking at me.
"Why, what's up?"
"I'm just sorta down at the moment, I found out Rachel cheated on me with some Jesse kid I hate from another school and she doesn't know that I know but I saw them kissing in the auditorium after school last week. I still haven't confronted her and to be honest, I'm shocked that she hasn't said anything."
"Oh. I'm sorry.. Why aren't you breaking up with her?" I ask
"I don't know... I guess a part of me just wishes it wasn't true - That she didn't do that."
"I get it..."
We play a card game he found in his bedside cabinet for an hour so then I suddenly get up and clap my hands,
"Well, do you want to beat her in the competition or what?"
He grins, standing up and sitting at his drum kit. We sing the song, our voices matching perfectly. I do the upper harmony, we sound perfect together. At that moment, I wish that we never stopped signing. His voice felt like my whole world was healed, I felt safe. We finish the song, looking at each other. There's a pause, it's like the world goes silent for a few moments and it's just us left. His face becomes closer to mine and I smell the musk of his cologne on his neck. Is he going to kiss me? My heart pounds. He pauses and quickly pulls away.
"I-I'm sorry." He says, flustered
"It's fine. Don't worry. I have to go home anyways..."
"Want me to drive you?"
"It's alright, I only live close. It's an easy walk."
He walks over to his closet and pulls out his jumper and places it on my shoulders,
"Wear this, otherwise you'll catch a cold. I don't want your voice being ruined for our performance"
I smile at him, my cheeks burning.
