6 - Duet

The next few days I try to avoid Finn as much as I can, I don't want anyone finding out what happened between us as I'd never hear the end of it. In cheerios practice, I was placed as a background dancer so I made friends with some of the other girls doing the same as me - everything seems to be going perfect, too perfect. I'm finally friends with Santana and Quinn and Brittany as they now see me as one of them, their cheerios. We walk in the halls together, we are popular! Boys stare and smile at me, put notes in my locker and I have friends. That's the first time i have ever felt like this, In my other school I was known as the ugly kid, the geek. I was laughed at and mocked - I had no choice but to move.

I open the door to the choir room where the rest of my Glee friends wait for me to start. I sit in my usual spot next to Mercedes,
"Hey girl!" she says, "Ready for your first Glee duet?"
I sigh and rub my hands together anxiously, "Yeah. I'm sorta nervous though."
"Don't be! We all love you and you're amazing at singing! You have nothing to worry about."
"I'm not worried about that." I mutter
"What do you mean?" she asks
"Forget it, it doesn't matter."
I think about the other night, the way Finn looked at me when we were singing. We have a connection and he knows it, after this performance, if they see the way we sing together- they will all know our chemistry.

Mr Schue steps into the room and claps his hands together, "Alright class, we are kicking off todays duets for our assignments with Finn and y/n! They're going to set the bar for all of you, I just know it's going to be a fantastic debut for y/n here."
I laugh nervously and nod to Finn, signalling for him to get to the drum kit.
He sets up a mic next to the drums and sits down, looking at me and smiling. The music begins and we start to sing, captivating the attention of our fellow glee clubbers. Nearing the end of the song, Finn nods to Puck who gets up and takes over at the drums. Finn picks up his microphone and slowly starts walking towards me as we sing, resting against the piano. He looks, longingly into my eyes and my heart flutters. We walk around the piano, locking in eye contact and closing the number close to each other, almost touching. As the music ends, I can see the room burst into applause yet there is no sound, the world goes into slow motion. Finn gazes into my eyes as I look longingly into his. People cheer and laugh as Mr Schue interrupts, "Incredible you two!! Let's hope everyone works up to that standard."
The world then goes back to normal and I quickly run to my seat as the applause continues, Mercedes and Kurt touching my arm and being excited for me, though I can't stop thinking about the other night.
