My heart raced as Gotham City came into view through the rain-pelted train window.

Though not much different from where I was coming from—Boston—the skyscrapers and historic buildings of the old city against the raging, stormy blue sky took my breath away.

I was going to have a new life here

I was going to have a new life here. One that was my own. This was going to be a good thing.

I stared in awe at the expansive campus that I would be attending for the next two years. Arriving only moments before, I now stood motionless at the Gotham University entrance.

The brutal storm from earlier had let up, so, taking my time, I explored the lush grounds and dark interiors of any building that I could get into. The campus was comprised of shaded sitting areas, cobbled pathways, hidden libraries, large study halls, food corridors, and many other amenities. Every structure was ornate and ancient, with intricate details characterizing every nook and cranny.

The more I explored the university, the more relief set in as my instincts told me that I had made the right choice

The more I explored the university, the more relief set in as my instincts told me that I had made the right choice.

Originally, I was going to stay in Boston and attend school there. But, when I learnt of the university here in Gotham, I knew this is where I belonged. Something about it just felt...right.

It was a hard choice though. Everything and everyone I knew was back home in Boston, and for a moment I had been doubting if I had made the best decision choosing to go to school in an unfamiliar city. But, as I took in the beautiful campus and the future it offered me, any doubts I had flitted away.

Now I was to go see my new apartment.

My new home.

In comparison to my awe upon arriving at Gotham University, my new residence was not so enamoring.

It was nothing more than a collection of thin walls sitting and creaky wood floors, with the only character being the poorly insulated windows that had probably been there since the building was built back in 1942.
