As I made my way back home in the torrential downpour that had yet to cease, I thought about the odd day I had, the odd people I met. Harley and Professor Crane...they were both so beautiful, but strange.

Different.

I could already tell this was going to be an interesting semester.

Upon arriving at my cramped apartment, I completed some assignments over a cup of ramen and decided to do some research on Arkham Asylum.

I had heard about Arkham, but had thought it was like every other run-of-the-mill metal health facility

I had heard about Arkham, but had thought it was like every other run-of-the-mill metal health facility. I had considered maybe even working there as a psychologist since I knew it was a large establishment.

But I had no idea it held criminally insane patients.

Not until I read what my computer screen displayed before me.

I swallowed. I knew Gotham was a dangerous city, just like any other densely-populated metropolitan, but I didn't realize that it was bad enough to cause the construction of a high-security asylum with it's own island.

I didn't dare think about what kind of monsters might be contained within.

The extra credit had better damn well be worth it.

The remainder of the week passed fairly quickly. I had been so preoccupied with my classes and assignments that I didn't realize Friday had already approached. I had also gotten Harley's number earlier in the week, and we were planning on going out tonight after my visit to Arkham.

As the end of the day loomed, I started my long walk to Dr. Crane's classroom. His demeanor had become less friendly with each passing day, but maybe he was just trying to scare off and root out the weaklings.

Professors tended to do that.

Despite my animosity and embarrassing attraction towards the professor, I would not let myself be susceptible to the obvious intimidation. Well, what seemed to be intimidation, though there was a high chance that's just how Dr. Crane was.

I waved to an already seated Harley as I entered the room and sat down quietly.
