Chapter 2

Kamren Reynolds  age18

This was all a shit show. It was the early 2000s and I was letting two old ladies ship me off to the government because I paid for medical bills. Honestly, if I would have stole from May to do anything else, I'd probably be dead. But still as I walked Ruby to the party I felt like I was a ping pong ball in the old ladies favor.

"You shouldn't have to go." Ruby whined.

"Yeah, I agree."

It was the last thing I said before I was so drunk I was in my bedroom crying holding a bottle of rum. Ruby was sitting next to me crying. We'd gone to Scott's house, but he wouldn't let us in. His mom was a nice lady, but was so mad she threw us in her car and drove us to my now empty house. My parents both went off to work somewhere or something. Oh, yeah moms in the hospital getting chemo, dad's with her.

"Fuck Ruby..my moms sick....I fucked the only person I love and he's mad at me and no one's going to wave goodbye to me tomorrow." I whined laying down on the floor.

"I'll be there. I promise." She whispered, kissing me lightly.

I laughed rolling away from her in a hurry. Ruby was always trying to get me in the sack with her. "Ruby, I'm gay." I giggled.

"Just....this once. I know I keep saying I like girls. But I want to know for sure. Have sex with me, help me. Please." She begged with big pouty lips and puppy dog eye balls. Ruby was beautiful. Almost as beautiful as Scott. Except she had boobs and I didn't like those. I made it a conscious effort to stay clear of them as she kissed me and we....did things.

"Ruby, this is so weird. I really don't like it." I whined and whined even though my penis was in the vag and I knew I was supposed to like it, it felt dirty.

Scott's face kept jumping to my mind and it just wasn't working.

"I know. I know. You're right." She was on top of me and collapsed to the side. "Fuck. It was cool for a second though."

No it wasn't. "Yeah, Ruby it was. I love you, bestie."

"But not as much as Scott."

"No. Not as much as Scott."

Where were they? Where was Ruby? Where were my parents?

The bus was leaving in 10 minutes and if they didn't show up soon I was going to cry and be heartbroken. Did not one person care that I was leaving home for years? I was beginning to panic and almost to the point of hyperventilating when a red mustang flew into the parking lot, Maybelline and my mom jumped out of the car like they were two insane assholes, which they were, but it made me smile that they were best friends and not even my moms sickness could separate them.

My mom grabbed me and hugged me. "I love you baby. I wish you wouldn't have done this to us. You should have been truthful and told me where the money came from."

"I know, ma. Me too, ma." I told her, squeezing her tightly.

"Come here, boy." Maybelline hugged me. "When you get back we will settle the score. And don't think I don't know about you and my girl." She pulled away with a wink.

For some reason my stomach churned. Her knowing my secret after ten hours bothered me. This town bothered me. This life. For the first time ever I was glad to be leaving this stupid fucking place that ate my soul and spit me out like I was garbage.
