Chapter 22

Scott

"Don't worry about that girl. Well, I mean maybe worry she's a stalker. But Cyn really hates her. They didn't even kiss or date. They went to the Café with a bunch of friends and Cyn told her they couldn't be girlfriends. Josey flipped on her and has been crazy ever since. Like, psycho crazy. But don't say anything Cyn doesn't know we know." I whispered to Shayla.

"Then how do you know?" She asked, whispering back.

"I spied. Or rather, I asked Effie and traded a foot rub to the pregnant lady for the information." I wasn't ashamed. It worked like a charm to ease the pregnant lady and get the right info about my kid.

Shayla laughed. "You're bad." She teased, smacking my arm.

I shrugged. "Cyn, she uh, she doesn't talk to me anymore. I gotta be creative." I sounded like a drowning man, because I was one.

"What? Since when? You two are besties." Shayla said to me.

I groaned looking at her. I don't think she realized what's happened to any of us since she'd been gone. I don't think she knew how great her leaving was for my girl.

"Since you left." Stan was the one who said it, Stan my great protector. "Something changed in her. She....she kind of turned into herself."

"Nothing happened." She snapped out, sending her big body against the back of her chair.

"Of course it didn't, deary." Ruby smirked.

"Yup, and I don't fuck girls." Ashtons sarcasm was rich.

"Leave her alone you guys." Kam told them. "Just because you two are willing to spread it for everyone old or young, doesn't mean Shayla's into that."

Oh, my god these people. You know sometimes I'm thankful God blessed me with patience. Shayla looked really confused. Her gray eyes darted from around the table. I grabbed my wine and coat then handed hers to her.

"Come on let's go for a walk. I need a smoke."

She took her coat with a brief nod, following me outside the backdoor of our house with her own glass of wine. It was cold this time of year, September. It was a beautiful night with the full moon overhead and a coyote barking in the distance. I liked this house I shared with Kam and Stanford. It took a little getting used to at first with the three people having sex thing and then living together, but all things even out in time and now it was my normal every day life and I was loved. Getting Stan and Kam to understand I was in it for the long run was difficult. The one thing I gave up for them was Ruby and Ashton. It bothered my men so I quit the weird 6 month sex with Ruby because they just couldn't handle it. I understood and so did the girls. They just found someone new which was fine by me.

Manny and Logan were obviously happy now too which meant for the most part my life was great. My life was full of love. But my child's life wasn't. Hadn't been since the beauty beside me left her high and dry. I sighed, lighting a joint I'd been saving for an occasion such as this when I needed to think about what I wanted to say. I handed it to her and waited for her to hand it back before speaking.

"Want to know a secret?" I asked her.

"Sure." She shrugged, blowing out her smoke.

"When I was 16 I went to a party across the lake." I pointed to the lake in front of us.

"There was this beautiful guy there. God, he was huge and dark with piercing eyes. Totally fucked the shit out of him." I laughed at the memory.

Shayla scoffed, taking a drag. "You little slut." She teased, passing it back.
