Ello ello ello, I'm back again!
It took me quite a while but to be fair I had a lot of shit going down privately.
But here I am with a new small chapter and I think I also got my motivation back to write more frequently 💪🏻
___________________________... A single tear rolling down their cheek.
A tear, that was a sign of pure relief. Eda was sitting on the couch, wrapped up in a blanket and holding her "Thirty & Flirty" Mug. Raine couldn't help but smile and let all the panic and stress wash away for a second.
Once they had calmed down, they did question why there was so much police force around though and why the guard said something about Eda in the first place. Then they noticed it and their smile instantly turned into a frown.
Eda seemed different. Her hair was messy and tangled, she had tear stains on her face and her lipstick was smudged. The witch also seemed to be in some kind of shock. Raine made their way over to the couch. The moment they got closer the bard also noticed some bruises on their wife.
"Eda? Love are you okay?" They asked carefully, trying not to startle their wife. She did not respond. She just stared off into some spot in the distance.
They tried again. "Eda?" the bard placed an arm around the owl lady and the second their hand touched her shoulder she jumped up and slapped their hand away.
"Don't!" ...
"Don't touch me!" she said quietly but assertive.Raine didn't know what to do. They knew something had happened but at this state Eda would never tell them anything. She was so scared, and it killed the mint haired witch not to be able to help her.
"It's okay love, I won't but please calm down. Everything is alright, I'm here now." They held their hands up to show her they wouldn't touch her again.
"You need to tell me what happened so I can help you, my love." They tried to persuade her.
She stared at them with sad eyes but in the blink of an eye something seemed to have changed and her gaze turned ice cold. Raine had never seen her like that.
"Nothing happened. Absolutely nothing." She spoke. Obviously lying.
"Okay. And what about those bruises you got on your face and arms? Did you get them from absolutely nothing?" The bard started to lose their patience. Why did she always try to hide things from them when they were so obvious?
"I just had a headache and when I took something against it, I started feeling dizzy and went down. I must've hit my head on the kitchen counter." She wasn't able to look at her partner.
The bard was at a loss...
What happened? They needed to find the answer, so they left Eda standing next to the couch and went off to find one of the higher-ranking officers.
"Lieutenant, can you please tell me what's going on here? What happened to my wife?" Raine really had to hold back from jumping at that man, forcing every bit of information out of him.
"Ah, Chief. I'm terribly sorry to tell you but we don't know. We got an anonymous call that somebody had broken in at your house and when we got here, we found your wife on the kitchen floor, she was awake but in shock and looked like she'd been beaten or something. She hasn't talked to us and it took 3 officers to get her to calm down. She even bit one of my juniors."
Titan damn it, they wanted to know more than this. Eda's kitchen theory seemed to check out, but Raine knew it was more than that. Their wife wouldn't be in such a shock just because she hit her head on the sink. Or was she? Eda had been very paranoid about every little sound and every person around. What if she imagined something and hit her head? The more they thought about it the more they believed it was a possibility.
Raine decided to let the truth wait for a moment and now be there for their wife. When they got back into the living room, she was sitting on the couch again. She seemed a little calmer than before but somehow a bone chilling vibe radiated from her. She seemed ice cold.
The bard slowly approached their love, giving her a warm smile to reassure her that they're here. Eda tried to avoid their gaze. She shifted in her seat and when her partner got closer, she got up.
„I'm going to take a shower" she said. Not giving them a second look. The bard was devastated. Their entire world seemed to crumble down. Was it something they've done? Did they forget an anniversary? Did they hurt her feelings?
„Maybe it's best if I give her some space for now." They said to themself. The chief made their way to the other officers and told them to wrap it up. They had finished investigating anyways so they packed up and left.
Once they were all gone and there was finally peace and quiet in the Owl House again, Raine sat down at the dinner table and started writing a letter:
„Dear Lilith,
I'm writing to you in utmost urgency. I was informed by my Lieutenant today, that someone broke into the Owl House. When I arrived, I saw Eda in a state of shock. You know how scared she was about the children's safety, and you also know how I tried to reassure her we are safe.I hope you understand that I only have my family's best interest at heart when I ask you to bring Hooty back to the Owl House.
I am aware that he functions as part of your new Museum and that he is your best friend but we'd feel a lot safer with him around.
Please let me know if you agree with this plan.
Best regards.
You're sibling-in-lawRaine"
They signed the letter and went outside to post it. As they entered the house again, Eda came downstairs.
„I will cook now." She stated coldly.
„Love, don't you think we should talk abou..." the bard started but was interrupted by her.
„Shouldn't you be on your way to pick up the children from pre-school?" She said without even looking at them.
„Yes.. I suppose I should" Raine answered, turning their back and leaving the kitchen to go and pick up the kids.
