Chapter 9: WILLOW?!

Willow's POV:

The stairs creaked as I walked down, yawning as I did so. "Hey dad, is breakfa-" I had stopped dead in my tracks when I saw Hunter on my couch, his hair down, (I didn't know it was ever up 😭) and mask and staff on the floor next to him.

"HUNTER?!"

"WILLOW?!"

My papa then interrupted us. "Do you two know each other?" I said yes, but Hunter said no. "Oh you don't remember me Hunter? What a shamee." I pretended to be sad, covering my eyes with my hands and fake cried, which quickly turned into a laugh.

"Oh nooo!" Hunter laughed along with me. I looked up at him, holding in more laughter. "Sniffle, sniff. Crying, sobbing, screaming, kicking. So impossibly sad." I snorted, holding in laughter as I looked Hunter in the eyes.

"You're bad at not laughing." Hunter said as he leaned back and crossed his legs, putting his arms behind his head. When he said that though, I bursted out laughing, which caused his to start laughing as well.

"Willow- I'm not even- I'm not even supposed to be here, let alone making stupid jokes with the best friend of a human and her adoptive mom, both of which being wanted criminals!" He still laughed though, he didn't seem that he wanted to leave.

"Why are you even here in the first place?" I wiped a tear from my eye and I flashed a confused look at Hunter.

He smiled sheepishly and proceeded to tell me how Kikimora had probably sent him on a death mission right before the rains started. "Oh titan. You might have to be back soon, Belos probably thinks you're dead. But then again, that's actually kind of a good thing, if you're dead Belos can't abuse you." I smiled at him jokingly, then seeing that he wore a dead serious look.

"He doesn't 'abuse' me." He did finger quotes, rolling his eyes. "And I do actually have to get back before he replaces me. If he replaces me then finds out that I'm still alive, he'll either have to kill me or the replacement." He scoffed, picking at his nails as he spoke.

"HUNTER! THAT'S NOT NORMAL. NO NORMAL PARENT DOES THAT." I shouted at him, throwing my hands in the air.

"He's not a parent, he's an uncle." At this point, I was unsure if Belos was even his uncle. He's probably lying about that too.

"Hunter-"

"Nope. Also I really have to go!" He grabbed his mask and staff, then stomping on his mask and breaking off a piece. "Gotta seem like I got into real trouble, not just boiling rain. Then he'd definitely replace me!" Hunter laughed, almost leaving before I grabbed his hand and pulled him into a hug.

"I love you." I softly spoke as I squeezed him tightly. He chuckled sheepishly, and I could see his red ears go down. "Like- like platonically r-right?.." He stuttered a bunch, still not hugging me back yet. "Yes, Hunter. You're my best friend. Platonic love." I pushed down my feelings, and he finally hugged back. "Belos wouldn't let me have a relationship anyway." He giggled a bit. "I- IF LIKE YOUR FEELINGS WERE LIKE THAT- I MEAN- IM NOT SAYING- YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!" His back stiffened, and he once again let go of me.

I tried to hold in a laugh as I pulled away from the hug and looked at his very red face. Looks like someone is a little embarrassed. "Yes, I know what you mean Hunter. We talk like-" I had to think for a second. "every other night, I know how you are." I nudged his shoulder.

"Now go." I pushed him over to the door, opening it for him, and bowing. He giggled a bit at the gesture, before hopping on his staff and beginning to fly off, before stopping and looking back at me. "Farewell, Captain!"

And as he began to fly back to the castle, I called out our little inside joke. "Buh-bye Caleb!" As I saw him leave, I smiled to myself and closed the door. Just as I turned around though, I was met with my dads. "I forgot you guys were there."

Dad raised an eyebrow at me and smirked, and Papa elbowed him in return. "What?" I questioned the two, who were acting quite suspicious. Silence filled the room and I decided I would head up to my own room.

I got a text from Hunter.
