Amy
The next few weeks passed easily and a rough routine established, which of course included Verity coming over to mine after school practically every day. I hated the idea I was that cringe person obsessed with the person they're seeing but what can I say? Verity was too lovely and we were in the honeymoon period so I didn't care.
"Hello," I heard Verity say, bringing me back to reality. I was in history class, which had evidently ended by Verity's presence, not that I'd noticed. Too busy daydreaming about her, as usual.
"Hey, how was physics?" I asked her, taking her elbow as usual, giving it a small squeeze. We couldn't really show any sort of physical affection at school for reasons that are pretty obvious but the fact that we could walk nearly hand in hand in the hallways was a plus.
"Shit, but that's to be expected." She laughed, a sound I loved hearing. We started walking through the hallways to the cafeteria. "We had to do this experiment with waves and water and stuff and me and Nick must have set it up wrong - I say that it was probably me - and so the water basically drenched my jumper. Elias went on a mad one about how this is a perfect demonstration of why taking care during experiments is important to get back at Nick, and then the teacher immediately came to say that Elias' model was also wrong."
The thing I'd noticed the most about Verity in the past few weeks was how much more talkative she was when she was comfortable with the people around her. It made me so happy that she didn't feel awkward sharing information with me anymore.
"That is pretty hilarious to be fair." I laughed along "What did Elias say after that?"
She was about to reply, before being interrupted
"Verity, why is your school jumper all wet?" It was unrecognisably Henrietta's voice. Although Mrs Allwood had basically confirmed that she wouldn't be head girl next year, she was still parading round school acting like she'd been given the position this year.
"It was just an experiment in physics." Verity replied, more confident than she usually was when confronted by Henrietta.
"Well, just remember that you're representing the school every time you wear your uniform." God, the superiority Henrietta felt towards everyone else, especially Verity, was insane.
"Okay." She replied, and Henrietta stayed silent for a few second.
"I'm only telling you because I'm sure Nick wouldn't approve." I frowned at Henrietta's words; why was she bringing Nick up in this? Verity's expression must have mirrored mine as Henrietta went onto explain further
"I'm just saying, it seems like you care a lot about how Nick sees you by the way you seem to spend so much time with him." Oh my god. It suddenly dawned on me and it was... hilarious. She was upset because she thought Verity was getting with Nick.
"We'll, thank you for that reminder Henrietta, I'll be sure to take your advice on board." Henrietta didn't say anything else after that, just hummed suggesting she was satisfied enough to move on.
"Fuck me," Verity said, laughing gently a few minutes after Henrietta had left us. "She's actually becoming more neurotic by the day I swear."
"Tell me about it." I replied joining in, "God Verity, water on your jumper? Absolutely disgraceful!"
"I know literally, because you know I'm representing the school and it's just entirely unacceptable. It's a surprise I haven't been expelled." I laughed easily
"And OMG Nick is gonna come for you when he sees it."
"Oh God yeah he's gonna flip his shit when he realises how I've been representing the school with this jumper." She laughs hard this time and I know part of it is why I thought it was so funny; Henrietta had read the situation so incorrectly.
