Minho is extremely worried about the upcoming winter. Between the dwindling food supplies and harsh temperatures, winter is always the deadliest time of year. Their hideout isn't heated and gets leaky in the wetter months, the lack of a stable place to go sets Minho's teeth on edge. His mother despises his friends and would never let them stay and beyond that having his friends in his home invites more problems than it's worth.
Jisung and Felix can hopefully stomach staying with their mother for a few weeks, just until it's less biting cold but the others will be more difficult to convince. Hyunjin will stay in his gilded cage until one of them comes to rescue him while Changbin and Seungmin will likely argue with their respective parents until they're blue in the face. Jeongin will probably sleep in the abandoned apartment they use for a hideout, maybe sneaking to Beomgyu's for a night or two if they're lucky.
It's not perfect.
It's all they have.
Fervently Minho hopes for a miracle and then chastises himself for a thought only Auradon kids are lucky enough to have granted.
The kids will freeze to death if they don't figure something out. Spurred by the thought and terrified by the reality Minho sets off to find Changbin.
Changbin is hanging around Wooyoung when Minho finally finds him about an hour after his quest started, but he leaves the pirate's side easily enough.
"Need somethin' cap'n?" he's imitating the way the boys of Hongjoong's crew sometimes speak to him but Minho just finds it grating and gives him a dirty look. Changbin mutters something that sounds suspiciously like 'no one has a sense of humor anymore' but changes his tune to something more serious when Minho says his piece bitterly, "I need you to have some ideas for the coming winter." Changbin scowls and looks away for a minute before he sighs.
"I've asked Jeongin to keep his eye out on any heaters, he's found a few but those will only work if the power keeps. I've started compiling our coats and all the blankets without mildew in the shed but I'm...I'm not sure it'll be enough," Changbin looks away and Minho swallows harshly.
Changbin admitting concern is enough to buckle Minho's knees, this will be the harshest winter they've had in years and they're so ill-prepared it's laughable.
"Ok, we need to try to get wood, even though the fireplace isn't good...it's all we have. We need to get blankets to cover the doors and windows as well as things like mittens and hats, we need everything you can get your hands on."
Neither of them says it but they both know, it probably won't be enough.
"Ok, I can keep a watch on the younger kids for a while if you can try to get some of the hellfire from your house," it hurts Minho to ask and it's completely unfair to Changbin but it's the best idea Minho has. It won't go out and with Changbin around it'll burn even hotter but his dad will kill him if he knows why he's stealing it.
"Yeah hyung, of course," Changbin walks away before Minho can take the request back. He doesn't have much time to regret it before he has to start heading to the twins' house, it's supposed to be the first snow of the year and Minho has to know where everyone will be.
The trek to the twins' house isn't as long as Minho always dreads it to be and he makes a few detours to pick up some more supplies for the hideout. He gets there just in time to see the twins being kicked, quite literally, from their house, still brawling.
Worryingly used to this Minhho grabs each twin by the neckline of their shirts, Jisung in his right hand and Felix in his left, and gives them a violent shake swearing when one of them bites him.
"So I take it you two are staying the night in the attic?" he rolls his eyes when both twins nod enthusiastically and shamelessly.
"What are you two even fighting about this time anyways-you know what, actually, I do not want to know." Minho scowls as he drops the two.
