It becomes clear unfortunately quickly no one is sure what to do. They've been left to their own devices for the better part of an hour, making everyone antsy. Jeongin has asked to leave no less than six times and Seungmin looks ready to spell the poor kid, the twins have been fighting on and off and are now pouting on either side of Minho in their designated "time-out" position while Hyunjin watches on in glee.
Changbin sighs and Minho gives him such an intense glare he has to gulp before he speaks, "We should just leave. They obviously don't want the new kids getting the first pick of the haul and we can't afford to miss a chance to scout this place out." Minho doesn't stop scowling but Jisung pipes up, "Yeah, I don't like the thought of us being sitting ducks." No one responds but they all know what he means; the windows are too large for furniture to effectively cover and there's only one clear exit.
As soon as everyone had piled into his room Changbin had taken to directing them into defense. He knows they'll all be staying in this room for the time being, they're not too dumb to spot an obvious attempt to get them all split up in enemy territory. A dresser is shoved haphazardly in front of the winds, the curtains pinned together with a sharpened paper clip, and they've made a clear path to the exit.
It's not enough.
"Fine, we'll leave," Minho announces irately, "Changbin grab your knuckles and Felix keep your knife on you." Changbin nods, not saying he's been wearing his brass knuckles the whole time, and watches Felix do the same out of the corner of his eye. Wisely none of the others point out Minho is asking their best fighters to arm themselves.
They're ready to go in less than five minutes, leaving slowly and carefully. One of the biggest pains of having a group this large is how hard it is to be stealthy. Changbin can hear Seungmin muttering an old protection for silence under his breath and puts as much belief into it holding as he can.
They exit their dorm building without problem but rapidly run into an actual one, they have no fucking clue where anything is in this giant school.
It's not long before someone stops. They've been spinning in circles for the past five minutes, arguing the entire time, it doesn't make for a discreet sight. A girl walks up to them staring in bemused shock for a second before clearing her throat, "Um, do you guys need help? You seem lost," Instinctively Seungmin and Jeongin scowl, nothing is worse than needing a mortal for help and owing them for it. Minho also shakes his head.
The girl stares in bewilderment before she shrugs, "Okay, well dinner is in like ten minutes and the cafeteria is through that giant arching door over there, "she points slightly to the left before she continues, "If you miss dinner you won't have the chance to eat again until the morning." Her warning done she turns and leaves.
Uneasily Jisung shifts, "Was she telling the truth?" Seungmin nods although he looks concerned, "Yes, but I don't know why," they all grimace imagining an ambush waiting for them. Unfortunately, Jeongin's stomach growls and it's decided, they can't skip another meal. If they walk into an attack, so be it.
Changbin is keeping rank at the very back but Jisung breaks off to walk beside him. It makes Changbin uncomfortable, preferring having Jisung near the front where he can use his talent at diversion but he says nothing. If Jisung wants to do something he will, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.
"Something is about to go wrong," the boy warns. Neither Felix nor Jisung have a hint of magical blood, but Changbin believes him immediately. Jisung's gut feelings are half the reason Changbin was alive to see his sixteenth birthday.
"I know," he replies lowly, trying to keep Felix from being able to hear. Jisung bites his lip and puts his hands in his pocket, feigning nonchalance. Changbin knows why. Everywhere they've walked since they set foot out of their dorm building people have been watching them in horror and disgust. It's a matter of time before someone tries something and it's causing the hairs on Changbin's arms to stand on end.
