**Chapter 13**

The Key

I picked up the key, and saw that mom had sent it. What was it for? I then found a small box, the same on that she had shown me, and given to me the day she had left.

I opened the box gently as I twisted the key in it. I found a note, from mom!

"Dearest Katherine,

You're probably reading this after a few years you found my key. I discovered that your father never really cared for you after I left. I want to tell you that I CANT come back from Chicago, I have so much work. So, you will come to me. If you are really smart enough to go to the airport by yourself, then follow these rules:

1. Grab food, water, and things you will need. There are passports in your closet to Chicago

2. You have about 5 mintues to leave this house, because now your father knows your leaving, and you opened the box. Dont open the door to ANYONE, not even the mailman.

3. Some men will try to kidnap you, so run to Aunt Jane.

4. Aunt Jane will provide you food, then run off to the airport because people will knock at her door and force her to take you away.

Katherine, I know more than you know about yourself. Your my daughter right? Now go!

I grabbed my bag and slowly went to the kitchen to grab food. I put about 3 water bottle in there. I got the passport which were hidden in the wall.

Just before I was leaving through the front door, Cody was there. I slammed the door in his face and ran to my room. I then climbed out the window.

When I sprinted to Aunt Jane's house, I saw a black van parked in my neighborhood, They were coming to get me! I ran even faster to her house and saw a small, yellow house. This was Aunt Jane's house. I knocked on the door.

I saw her wearing a blue shirt and black jeans, her brown hair was curly and beautiful. She smiled

"Hi Kat! What brings you here?"

"Oh, I'd just live to...... sleepover. You know we havent talked for a while, so I decided to visit your house"

I felt guilty lieing to my favorite aunt. She let me in and closed the door. Her house was feesh scented, and her furniture was all yellow and green. How pretty!

"Here just set your stuff down, lets go and get some dinner in the kitchen"

I followed her to the kitchen, it was like a buffet, just the best! I grabbed my plate and served myself a lot of food. Aunt Jane turned on the TV, while I stuffed my mouth.

When I was finished Aunt Jane told me that we were going to a museum in the morning, so I had to sleep early. She tucked me in bed and gave m a kiss on my forehead, Just like my mom

Later I woke up at about 6:30 am, the sun was rising. I soon fell back asleep, then I woke up at 10 am, Aunt Jane was awake and set up breakfast.

I went to the guest room and changed into regular clothes. From this room to the living room, I heard a bang on the door.

"Hello?!"

I quickly grabbed my stuff and got out through the back door, I stayed outside to heard Aunt Jane open the door and talking to some stranger.

"Have you see a girl named Katherine or Kat Isa?" he asked

"Why do you need to know?" said Aunt Jane

"Its a yes or no question. Answer me or I'll kill you!"

"Kat! Someone needs you at the door!"

"Get her here or I'll kill you!"

I heard footsteps going up the stairs, then back down.

"Sir, she's not here" said Aunt Jane

"Boys! Come and take this women" the stranger said

Out of no where, they grabbed Aunt Jane and threw her in the van. I ran to the airport crying. Thinking that Aunt Jane was going to die.
