Seola spent the rest of the day trying to warm up to the environment. The town she thought she knew the best completely changed over the years and she started to feel a little alienated. The town expanded, none of her old friends were there (at least for now), all the shops she loved closed, people came and go, she was the only one who remained the same. Sure, she loved the place more than anything, but she wasn't so sure she belonged anywhere anymore. She always wanted to fit in somewhere in the world, but Jung Seola was just Jung Seola, a soul trying her best, just like any other.
The presence of Lee Haechan, although completely unwanted and annoying, was somewhat comforting. In the sea of changes at least their bickering remained the same. "What would high school me think about the current situation?" Seo thought to herself.
She walked on the freshly put asphalt towards the old park, who was the exact same as she left it, mostly because there was a new park in another side of the town. While on the rusty swing, Seola felt like a little kid again, trying her hardest to forget about all her worries and enjoy the moment. She played with her silver, aventurine gemstone necklace, one that her grandma gave her when she was little. The good luck stone hasn't worked on her so far but maybe it was time it did. After calmly swinging a few times more, Seol continued her stroll around.
As she was walking, she noticed a little boy, around seven years old that was very concentrated on his little chalk asphalt art work, a sun and a moon. His mom sitting a meter away on a bench, looking at her son.
"I like your drawings, very cute!" Seola said smilling, squatting down to get on his level.
"Thank you nice m'am!" the kid said happily. He looked at his mom who nodded at him, then he got up and picked a small, dafodill flower and shyly handed it to Seola. "Thi-this is for you." he stuttered right before running to his mom, embarassed.
Seola smiled, her heart warmed by how cute the little boy was. She put the flower in her hair wondering since when she's become a m'am.
Her little adventure continued, her feet taking her to the market, the bussiest and liveliest part of the town. She felt the eyes of the older women on her, since, in the end she was a stranger to them and, a newcomer always sparks curiosity.
"You're such a pretty lady. I haven't seen you around, are you visiting someone?" a sweet woman in her sixties asked. She seemed to be the owner of a fruit stand.
Seol smiled "Thanks! I moved here yesterday! I'm opening a dessert shop where the old bakery was. Jung Seola, nice to meet you!" she said, shaking the woman's hand.
"Just call me Aunt Cho. Glad to have a fresh face here, you know, there are a few young people livving here, despite the place being so small. You've probably noticed the restaurant in front of your future store, the owner is quite handsome." Seola's new "aunt" said with a smirk on her face, not noticing the slight look of horror on the younger's face at the mention of the male.
"Anyways, do you think my dessert shop is going to have enough customers?" Seol said, trying to quickly change the subject.
"The bakery was always busy and the best sellers where always the pastries and donuts. Now that it's closed there's no place for the sweet tooths, and Sunset Diner doesn't even have a proper desert menu." the woman responded, stating her opinion.
Seola noded in response. She was happy to hear a local's aproval on this matter. Her gaze lingered on the bright red apples in front of her, who would be perfect for a pie.
"You can take as many apples as you want, it's on the house. Make some nice desserts with them." Aunt Cho said.
After she chose 5 apples and put them in the tote bag she brought, she decided to head to the grocery store and buy everything she needs to make herself lunch. Looking at the cheese isle and lost in thought, Seola didn't notice the familiar figure that was coming towards her from the back.
"SEOLA!"
"Ahh!" she flinched, flustered. She turned around, only to see her newest friend, Eunkyung.
"Did I forget to take my clown mask off?" Eunkyung asked ironically, making Seol chuckle. Behind Kyung there sat a guy who had two bags of chips in hand and seemed very concentrated on finding out which one is better.
"This is my brother, Jisung" Eunkyung said, elbowing her brother who flinched in pain.
"Yes, that's me. You're the one who bought the place, right, Seola?" Jisung asked with an enthusiastic smile on his face.
Seola smiled and Eunkyung elbowed Jisung again, mumbling to him something along the lines of "ask her".
"Uhm, I was wondering if you could hire me too. I used to work at the bakery and I'm quite experienced. I'm not good with decorating but I'm a quick learner." Jisung shyly said.
Seola didn't have any reason to say no. Help was very much needed and she liked the siblings' company. They were warm and energetic and she could already tell she was going to get along really well with them.
Now, Seola and her two employees were heading back to Seola's place to search online for things to buy for the shop. As they were heading inside, she heard Jisung, who was behind them, say: "Hi Haechan!! Guess who has a job now? ... It's me, I do." Haechan had just opened the door to the restaurant, broom in hand. He didn't even process what his friend was saying since he saw Seola again, who's presence he previously convinced himself was just an illusion. They looked each other in the eyes with an irritated expression and before they could say anything Jisung asked:
"Do you know Seola, my employer?"
