The present
The next day her and the Park siblings went to the big city to buy some stuff for the shop. While shopping, Seola kept on babbling about how she'll arrange everything and all the cute baking utensils she found. The Parks just followed her around and gave advice whenever she asked for it. Seo carefully chose everything, taking the time to make the best decision. The stuff she couldn't find in store she was planning to just buy online, which meant even more dreaded time looking at furniture for the Parks.
For now, she only thought about the dessert shop, not so much about her own home. To her, the shop was going to become her home and since her house was already furnished, cute decorations could wait until her little dream of being a baker oficially comes true.
"How on earth is there any diffrence between these?" Jisung asks while holding two diffrent spatulas of slightly diffrent shapes and shades of blue.
"It's clearly diffrent" Seola said, lost in thought before deciding to grab the ocean blue one. "The handle is more comfortable on this."
"You guys! I'm tired, can we go home?" an exhausted Kyung asked in annoyance.
After a little while they were done and headed home, with Seola driving. When she headed home she suddenly became worried her neighbour was going to distrupt her peaceful life again but he was nowhere in sight. Instead, another familiar figure appeared in front of her.
"Binna!?" Seola excitedly exclaimed, more than happy to see her best friend again.
Bin turned around and hugged her friend with a huge smile on her face.
"Are you here to take the interviews already?"
"Not exactly. First we have to get everyone's aproval, only afterwards can everything begin. Now we're just going to film everyone's brief opinion on this whole idea. "
Seola nodded in understanding. "I can help you a little if you want."
So, the two, followed by a small camera crew, started going around the small town telling all the food related shop and restaurant owners about the documentary plan. Even the older individuals where easily convinced, wanting to spread the word about their sweet, cosy town to the whole country, especially the young residents of the busy cities. Seola's heart warmed up seeing how close everyone was to the place she loved so dearly. She got emotional hearing all the old folks talking about their sweet years growing up in Guryongpo and how much it meant to them, or about the people who simply loved the place, not having any previous ties to it. People were surprised by the cameras and kept on curiosly creeping into the stores to see what was happening. Seola then headed home quickly, remembering the sweets she planned to let the staff and passerbys taste.
After they finished with almost all of the businesses, it was time to present her's. Sure, she wasn't even a business owner yet but she was working on it, and the director actually thought showing the way Seola's store progresses is a good narrative to use. She let the camera crew install the equipment in front of her future store's counter while she quickly grabbed some fairy lights she bought earlier that day as decorations and hanged them on the wall behind the counter, stressing about not knowing how to hang the cupcake sign. Busy with baking, she forgot to decorate. After a few more minutes and Jisung's help, the temporary setup was finished.
Seola calmed down her nerves and started saying the lines she rehearsed in her head.
"Hello everyone! My name is Jung Seola and I've grown up in this town, so this place is very special to me. I remember like in a dream, being a todler and running on the seashore, getting pushed by my little friends in the salty sea water as our families were carefully watching, yelling how we shouldn't leave their sight." Her face instantly lit up, something noticed by all the people in the room. Clearly, this strange event wasn't left unnoticed by the restaurant owners next door, only Haechan being left to manage the tables, who were all empty since the few customers they had at that hour went to see what was happening too. So, a deafeated Haechan dragged his feet to next door with the excuse of seeing how bad Seola could publicly embarass herself.
After Seo explained how she moved around a few times and how she always found comfort in the sea, Eunkyung and Seola brought a bunch of cupcakes with a half of blue frosting on top and the other with biscuit crumbles, representing the sea and seashore. Everyone got a cupcake, but seeing Haechan, Seola purposefully missed him. Noticing this, Haechan mumbled an of course under his breath.
"Sorry, I think he wants one too." Jaemin said, pointing to Haechan with a mischievios grin. Seo gave them a forced smile before handing one of the cupcakes to the aparent sweet-tooth.
"I don't even want it."
"Then give it to me."
"I mean now that I have it I'll eat it I guess." Haechan said before taking a bite out of it. It wasn't the first time he tasted something she baked. She used to always hand out little cakepops or tarts she made to Eunju, Mark and other classmates that were sitting close. Since he sat next to her, Seo sometimes gave him one too if he didn't get on her nerves too much that day. Even tho he wasn't really a fan of sweets, he was aware saying she's a bad baker would be a lie.
"I hope you enjoyed the little cupcakes I made and are looking forward to the opening of our store, Sugary Delights." Seola said with a bright, heart-warming smile, while standing next to Jisung and Eunkyung.
"Seriously, I don't get how you can hate her." Jeno said before taking the last bite out of the delicious cupcake. Haechan didn't bother to respond, looking down at his feet.
After she was done, the director, Binna and the filming crew went towards Haechan, Jeno and Jaemin to ask them if they want to be a part of the documentary.
"This is ridiculous. I don't want to be a part of this. " Haechan said with a scoff, his eyes focused at the baker in the back of the room who was happily chatting away.
"Don't mind him, he's senseless. Sure, we're very grateful. It's a very good opportunity that doesn't come often." Jeno responded, glancing at Haechan. Felling the eyes of his co-workers on him, Haechan ended up agreeing to it.
So, the camera crew went to the cosy Sunset Diner. Curios, Seola decided to watch what was heppening there too. At least Haechan's friends where nice.
"Hello! We are Na Jaemin"
"Lee Jeno"
"And Lee Haechan. I was the one who decided on opening a restaurant here. We were college classmates, studying business and tourism in Busan. I chose this place after finding out about it from..." he said with a long pause "the internet. I just thought it was perfect for what I had in mind and these two where in on the idea. I like how everyone here knows everyone and how it's always peace and quiet."
Seo was quietly watching from a corner, annalysing Haechan's words. Ever since high school he wanted to open his own business, and cooking was a skill he learned the hard way, remembering the times he gave Mark something to eat only for it to taste a bit odd. Even though he didn't put in much effort for anything, by the end of the last year Mark titled him the best cook in the school, and he was probably right.
"Thank you to you three!" Binna said after they where finished.
"The pleasure is ours. Please stop by our diner if you pass by." Jeno said to her with a big smile, leaving Bin flustered and with a slight red tint on her checks that was gladly not noticed by him. But someone else did. Seola gave her a playful nudge and a little smirk but Binna just ignored her teasing and walked away with the filming crew.
