Billy had walked a mile and a half from the house when he couldn't walk another step due to his feet killing him. He sat on an oversize boulder before reaching up into his pockets and pulled out a packet of cigarette. He had placed one right between his lips when the sound of a car rolling up towards him caught his attention. He lifted his head before mumbling a string of curses as Hopper's car came into view. Billy pushed himself off the boulder and began to walk in the other direction to try and avoid him entirely... however, it was quite pointless.
"BILLY HARGROVE!" He heard billowing from the sirens of Hopper's car, "SLOW YOUR ROLL! BILLY!"
Billy didn't answer but he listened to the sound of wheels rolling up beside him. From the corner of his eye, he could see Hopper looking at him with quick glances at the road. He also noticed he was forming a black eye from where Billy had hit, but also a reddish mark on his cheek, which couldn't have been caused by him.
"Billy I know you can hear me. Get your ass in the car." Hopper told him.
"No thanks, I'm good." Billy spat at him.
"Look I know what I said was completely out of line and I am sorry. But I know you want to help your friends out right? So get in the car." Hopper said before he put the car in park. Billy walked a few more paces away from him before cursing under his breath and heading over to the passenger side. Once he was in, Hopper made a U-turn and proceeded back the way he came. For a moment neither of them didn't talk, until...
"Where did you get the cigarette?" He asked before taking the cig out of Billy's lips then reach into Billy's jacket pocket to pull out the rest of the pack. Billy turned to look at Hopper.
"The store." he answered.
"Did you steal these?"
"No!" Billy spat.
"Then how did you get them? You're supposed to be eighteen to buy cigarettes." Hopper told him.
"The lady at the counter gave them away." he said.
"She did not."
"Did too!" Billy growled.
"That would make horrible business to just give shit away." Hopper stated.
"Well she did." Billy confirmed.
"The lady just let you have them, no charge, just like that?"
"Just like that."
"I don't believe you." Hopper blurted out, "I know that lady. She's a cranky, eighty year old, who's very bitter. There is no way she would just give a pack of cigarettes away unless you did something."
"Fine! I flirted with her." Billy confessed to Hopper.
"Just flirted? Because I know a few pals, who tried that are now ban from her store." Hopper stated.
"Okay, I also might have undone a button or two on my shirt." Billy said. Hopper shot a horrified expression at Billy.
"Just your shirt?" Hopper asked. Billy tilted his head to the side.
"I might have also quickly and without being noticed, unzipped my pants and pretended I didn't realize my fly was open." Billy said. Hopper shot another horrified look like he was about to have a heart attack.
"BILLY!"
"Hey! I got what I wanted." Billy argued.
"Billy, you shouldn't have done that to obtain cigarettes." Hopper told him, "I should arrest her actually."
Billy shrugged his shoulders. The car became silent again until Hopper cleared his throat.
"Billy, I want to tell you something..." Hopper said, pausing for a minute, "What I said at the house... I didn't mean to say that. I was just angry and when you're angry, you start blurting shit out. That was extremely wrong of me to say you're just like your dad."
Billy didn't reply. Hopper tapped his fingers against the wheel.
"On the way to find you, I was actually thinking... about how you're sometimes quick to lose your temper and attack." Hopper mumbled, "I think that is less your father's doing and more your... monster side's doing."
Billy shot a heated glare.
"Hear me out... this side of you, even though it's hidden under the surface, its still inside you. I believe it's tied with your emotions and it reacts to them. So when you're angry, that's why sometimes your body starts to shift. Your monster side is reacting to your emotions. It's why when Carol and Tommy were verbally attacking your friends, your monster side begins to take over." Hopper stated, "It does not think logically. It thinks on instincts. In its mind, there was only one way in dealing with the threat which is violence, just like other animals due when their family are in danger."
"May I ask did the scientists teach you any techniques to try and keep yourself calm?" Hopper asked him. Billy scoffed.
"No... if anything, they did everything they could to try and increase my anger." Billy confessed, "After all, they were more interested in making a weapon out of me than teaching me how to live a normal life."
Hopper shook his head, trying to keep his own anger down. The very thought of people abusing children was a personal peeve to him. Given how he would have done everything in his own life to get his own daughter back and then there were adults out there taking advantage of mistreating their own children. Hopper was turning the corner when his eyes widened.
"What the hell?" He said while his eyes drifted between the numerous black vans standing outside his house. Hopper had barely parked into the drive when their doors were being flung opened.
"HEY!" Hopper screamed as he was dragged out of the car and slammed to the ground. He struggled to escape, but the people had locked his wrists together. He peered out in front of him and saw a couple of military guards dragging Billy across the ground. Hopper could see Billy's eyes were glossed over and trying to keep opened while his body was limp. It was clear he had been drugged. He watched as Billy was dragged off to one of the vans. When they opened the back of the van, he could see some of the other kids. Some were knocked out like Billy while others were struggling against their restraints. The guards carelessly toss Billy inside then shut the door behind them.
The van with the kids started their engines and made their way out of the drive. Hopper struggled to get out of his handcuffs when the guards picked him up from the ground.
"Mr. Jim Hopper, I presume."
Hopper shot his head to the side to see an older man with white hair walking up to him with an eerie calm face.
"Who are you, you son of a bitch? What are you doing with those kids? Where's Joyce?" Hopper screamed at him.
"I am Dr. Brenner. We are just going to take you, your wife and friends in for a brief talking." Dr. Brenner stated to him then nudged with his head for the guards to take Hopper to the other van. Hopper cursed at him while the guards dragged him off. Without warning, Hopper was being lifted up from the ground and tossed into the van carelessly. Upon impact, Hopper hit his head and caused him to black out.
