I finished chapter 1. Yes, I know that's 3yrs late, but it's progress. I want to have a decent chunk of it done before I start posting on Patreon, then wattpad. This book will be pretty long, and I hope you're excited to find out the conclusion to Edith and Kazmir's story. It's a trip!

If you want first dibs on book two, here's my Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/dellakitt

Otherwise, have a little preview!

"Do you go in tomorrow, Edie?" Elise asks me during dinner. Her cooking is so good, I'm too busy savoring it to answer.

"Yes," I say finally. "My whole day is booked until after tea time."

"Heavens! Should I pack you a lunch then." She says as if affirming it rather than asking me. I only offer a nod as I mull over tomorrow. Let's see: I have classes from 8am until noon. Then I have my clinicals from 1-5, that doesn't even consider the time I'll spend in the library or at some café studying for not one, but two gigantic tests. On top of that? I can't even take the second one without graduating! I have to register, and what if they don't take me? I don't even know if I want to go home or not. Or should I work in Germany? It's crossed my mind; and I haven't been since before Oma died. That was at least over 15 years ago!

A small sigh leaves me, quiet enough that I hope Elise hadn't heard it. Where has all the time gone?

Time.

Immediately my mind teleports me back to California, back to San Francisco. The smell of sourdough bread, the sounds of The Embarcadero, the ocean, the cable cars and trolleys ringing their bells as they roll alongside cars. I miss it. I even miss my studio. I miss my sister, my friends, I don't miss the traffic or the inability to ever find parking, but I miss the atmosphere.

And more than anything else, I miss Kazmir. In my dreams he's there, on the stern of the Califia, dashing as ever. Those blue eyes gentle and so full of love, and that smile that showed off his lonely dimple that made my heart flutter. Where are you now? Or has time taken you away as well?

"Edie!"

Elise waves her hand in front of me, bringing me back to the present.

"Sorry." I utter, poking at my dinner now.

"I was wondering if you'd come back!" Elise sighs, "Müüsli, you can't let these finals get to you. What you're doing, albeit crazy, isn't something no one has ever done before! You're a clever girl. You'll do fine. Honestly, the way you're working yourself to death is worrying me. You need to relax a bit."

"I'll relax when the semester is over."

"If you don't die from sheer exhaustion first! Take it easy for tonight, at least!"

"Fiinnne. I won't study tonight."

My roommate beams, showing off perfect teeth and high cheekbones. Kazmir had high cheekbones. "Great! First thing's first! Finish up dinner and I'll meet you in the bathroom. And no peeking!" Just like that, she's gone.

"Hey!" I call to her. "What about dinner? The dog will eat it if we leave it out!"

I don't get a response. So I guess that means I have to load the dishwasher and put the leftovers away.
