AS I WALK INTO luke's room to wait for him to come back with his books, i sit on his bed and stare at all the different band posters.

i spot a green day cd and get up to see it as the door swings open to reveal a panting luke that probably ran up the stairs.
how does that boy even function with those lanky legs. i stare at him before putting down the cd and sitting back down on the bed.

"so, what's the subject today?" i ask as i drink from my water bottle.

"math, i guess." he says, i catch him staring at my lips.

"mhm, okay." i say and grab out my pencil case and books.
i pull out a math textbook and scoot over closer to the desk he sits on.

"so, what do you need help on? what area?" i ask while finding a page and looking up to see his ocean blue eyes.

his eyes. eyes that make the ocean look dark and grey, as his shine brighter and vibrantly. i guess there's just a barrier to those bright eyes. a barrier i want to break.

he brings his lip ring into his teeth and start to bite on it, i try not to get distracted.
"hello? evelyn? you dead, girl?" he snaps his fingers in front of me.

"excuse me, sorry. got distracted." i feel the pink raising up on my already rosy cheeks.

"distracted by what?" he smirks, already knowing what.

"you know what, shut up." i say, trying to keep my smile from expanding and looking down to the paper.

...

we finish up the lesson for the day and i start packing up.

"hey, eve. why don't you stay for a bit?" he asks shyly, a view i wouldn't have imagined. luke wouldve been really bothersome, cocky and absolutely loathed the fact of being stuck with me for more time.

"i don't know luke, it's getting pretty late." i say as i open my phone to check the time. 10:42 pm.

"please? tell your parents your sleeping over a friend or something." he says with pleading eyes.

"why?" i ask curiously.

"because, we can watch movies all night." he grins.

"alright, alright, hemmo." i laugh a bit, pulling out my phone to text my parents.

i finish texting them, and turn to luke.

"now what?"
he grins and pulls my arm and he walks to his room.

i drop down my bag beside the door, and plop down on his bed.

"well, i don't know you much so tell me. tell me about yourself." he tells me and he sits down on his spiny desk chair and spins a little bit.

"me? oh, well. im evelyn riley and i hate long walks on the beach." i say, grinning at him.

"evelyn! come on!" he pouts.

"well, fine. i am evelyn james. i love bands so much and that's why i don't mind studying in your room a lot because your taste in music isnt that bad. i love green day, twenty one pilots, the 1975, fall out boy, paramore and all time low. i love quiet places where i can escape."

"i love your music taste, james." he says, again, staring into my lips as if he doesn't know i notice.

"how about you, hemmo?" i turn to him, my focus entirely on him.

"well im luke robert hemmings, 18, love emojis, even the ugly ones. i'm very moody and i can change in a matter of seconds. i love bands, music, guitar. i hate popular people, and i love quiet places i can escape to."

"i guess you like your sweet escapes too, huh."
he smiles, and then turns to his television.

"movie?" he grins like a five year old child.

"depends on what movie."

"let's watch titanic."

"what the hell? really?" he seems shocked.

"yes, it's a classic. di caprio's hot too."

"never mind. sorry, thought you were one of those white girls who liked mean girls."

"oh lord, no." i laugh, as his laugh joins mine.
