-Short Chapter-

Starr Recording Studios
Boston, MA-1983

Kylea was by herself in the studio, she was writing some lyrics in her songbook as she played a melody on the keyboard. Kylea kept playing through chords till I finally found something to match the lyrics she was writing.

The guys, Brooke and Maurice enter the studio. "...We need another hit song," Maurice says to Brooke, before he can say a word he hears someone singing in the booth.

'Ooh
Is this the end?

Are you my friend?

It seems to me

You ought to be free'

The guys, Maurice and Brooke walked inside to see Kylea in the booth with headphones on singing what was in her songbook.

'You used to me when the chips were down
You used to be mine when I weren't around'

Kylea now played a different key and closed her eyes singing the next verse.
'Boy, can't you see how I feel?

All these feelings that I feel are real

Oh oh, boy

Can't you see,

I need you?'

Kylea opened her eyes and saw Ralph was beside her, she tensed a bit when he placed the extra headphones on and sat down next to her. He looked at the lyrics on her songbook and sang the next verse.

'Is this the end?

Are you my friend?'
Kylea turned her head to see the guys come in harmonizing, Maurice was by the soundbar adding some sound to match while Brooke was watching.

'It seems to me

You ought to be free'

'You used to be mine when the chips were down

You used to be mine when I weren't around'
The guys sings along with Ralph, Kylea is still playing the keyboard while Ralph sings the next verse.

'Girl, can't you see how I feel?
All these feelings that I feel are real
Oh oh, girl'

Ralph glances at Kylea, she faces him and then looks away to continue playing.

Can't you see,

I need you?

Aw, baby,

Oooh

Is this the end?

Aw, baby,

Is this the end?'

Ricky sits next to me with me in between him and Ralph on the bench by the keyboard and he added something.
'Mama told me one day it was gonna happen

But she never told me when

She told me it would happen when I was older

Wish it would've happened then'

Me and Ralph sang the chorus together.
'Is this the end?'
Ricky does his verse again.
'Mama told me one day it was gonna happen

But she never told me when

She told me it would happen when I was older

Wish it would've happened then'

'Is this the end?'

'I wanna know,

I wanna know,

I wanna know,

Is this the end, girl?'

'Oooh'
The guys harmonized as Ralph did the chorus.
'Is this the end?'

'I gotta know,
I gotta know,
I gotta know,
Is this the end?'

'Oooh'

'Is this the end?'

The music fades and Kylea closes her songbook. "That was perfect," Maurice's voice spoke over the silence in the booth.

"Yea, Lea, when did you write that?" Mike asks as Kylea holds her songbook close to her chest. "Uhm, I wrote this for a while it was supposed to be private, y'all weren't even supposed to hear that," She blushed in embarrassment.

"That's a record right there, Kylea you think we could borrow those lyrics?" Maurice asks, Kylea gives him a reluctant nod and tears the pages with the lyrics out of her book.

"Here," She gives him the lyric sheets and sits on the couch. "We're gonna take it from the top, Ralph you start," Maurice rewinds the track, the boys placed on the headphones. Kylea sees Ralph facing her mouthing, "Are you okay?"

She gives him a fake smile and nods her head. She goes back to her songbook as they started the track.
