Reincarnation

Is this  what death is like? Tala thought, I feel pain, but it’s not very strong. All I see is fading light and blurry figures standing over me. They are saying something, but it’s hard to make out.

        “Tala no, don’t leave me! Stay awake! TALA GET UP!” a voice said. It was Onvyr.

        “On...vyr.  Don’t...worry, I will stay with you forever.” Tala said weakly as she kissed him on the cheek.

        Looks like I won’t get to kill Snowfox after all. What a twisted world. Instead of killing her, I saved her. It’s funny really. I guess I might as well die with a smile on my face.

         Three days later, Tala woke from the dead, but not as a solid being. Oh gods, did they bury me? Why in Lupus did they do that? She said as she floated above her buried body,  I guess it’s time to posses another animal.

        Tala searched for something to make her a physical being, but only found plats and deer. That is, until she stumbled upon a lone wolf pup. The pup was obviously injured, but it lived and she was going to make this pup her new body. Though she would look like a child when she had been in that body for a little less than a month. She traveled down to the pup, and with a whimper, she jumped into the body. This is much more comfortable. Now time to transform. Tala thought.

After Tala transformed into a human, she had to find some clothes. She walked all the way to where her previous body was, unburied, took the shirt off of it, and then recovered the body.

“Well then, the shirt is a little big, but it’ll do until I can find the others.” She said. After about a mile, she had to stop because she was still in a child’s body.

In three days, she managed to pick up a trail leading to her friends. She followed the trail, and stopped behind a tree, so that they wouldn’t see her. She quickly turned into the wolf pup and limped into camp. Elfii was the first to notice her, and quickly ran over and carried her to the others. “It’s ok, little guy, we can get you all healed up. Ok?” Elfii said.

Tala stared at her with a gaze that said put me down, Elfii understood and set her down carefully. Tala transformed and and said with a smile “Hello everyone. Nice to see you again.”

They just stared, ran over to her, and bombarded her with questions.

“H-how are you still alive? I thought you were dead!” Onvyr said

“It’s a werewolf thing. We can travel to another body and then possess it, but I only take over the bodies of animals. Though others of my kind prefer the...other alternative.”  Tala said in her childlike voice.

“But wasn’t the body you took over a wolf pup, so how can you turn yourself into a child?” Alverdus asked, full of curiosity.

“Let’s see, I am a werewolf. When I take over a body, it immediately becomes a were-animal, which means part human part animal. Say I had to take over a cat’s body, that cat becomes a werecat. Understand?”

“I guess.” Alverdus said slightly puzzled.

“I’m so glad you’re back. Thank you for saving my life.” Snowfox said as she sat down next to Tala. Meet me in my tent tonight. We need to talk.

“Ok, and you’re welcome. Sorry I couldn’t come sooner. You guys were hard to track.” Tala said apologetically.

“Tala. I’m glad you’re ok. I missed you so much. I must say, you look absolutely adorable as a child.” Onvyr said with a smile.

“Haha, very funny Onvyr. You make me laugh.” Tala said sarcastically.

Shadowmoon flew in from his hunt when he recognized the scent of a friend. TALA! You’re alive. Why are in a child’s body? How are you even alive? He said ecstatically.

“I missed you to Shadow.”

When they finished their greetings, it was already dusk. They built a fire and ate dinner, while quietly celebrating the return of a beloved friend. When they were done eating, they bid each other a good night and fled to their tents. Tala went to Snowfox’s as she was told that evening.

“What did you want to talk to me about, Snow?” Tala asked.

“I know you are able to reincarnate, but how come you jumped in front of that arrow?” Snowfox inquired.

“You have a family now Fox. I wasn’t about to let that end just as quickly as it began. I care about each and everyone of you. You are my family, and I will protect you!”

“How touching, but in your last breath, you kissed Onvyr. Do you love my brother?”

“I do, but he is an elf. It is taboo for a werewolf to love another species.”

“Then why did you commit suicide just to save me!” Snowfox said furiously, but quickly regained her cool, “If you care so much about him, why did you do that? You are his everything, so why?”

“I did that because I care. I’m unsure of how to show my feelings, so I decided I would sacrifice my life because I care about all of you.”

“Tell him you love him. Now leave me, I have work to do.”

Tala left Snowfox’s tent and went to Elfii’s. She turned into a wolf pup again and fell asleep in the corner.

Tala woke when the sun broke through the sky the next day. Today was the day she was going to tell Onvyr how much she cared. Even though she looked like a child and had the mind of a teenager, she was still a grown woman. This is going to be the most grown-up thing I have ever done. Tala thought and laughed.

She marched right over to Onvyr’s tent and opened the flap.

“ONVYR!!! I need to talk to you.” Tala said. By this point she looked like a seven year-old, and she had the same voice as a seven year-old.

“Well, you’re a sight for sore eyes.” Onvyr said as he sat up from his make-shift bed, half asleep, and shirtless.

“Put some clothes on first. I can’t take you seriously without them.” She said as her face was turning red.

“What if I don’t want to?”

“Ok, seriously I need to talk to you about something very important.”

“What is it?”

“I-I umm, love you…” Tala stammered.

“And I you. I’m glad that you told me that. I’ve been waiting for a long time.”

With that Tala left the tent and went out to hunt. She turned into a young wolf. Everyday she looks a year older. Her aging stops after the eighteen, but the younger their actual age the longer it takes.
