The Fast wasn't going to let me through. Every time I swerved one way or the other he followed me just as fast if not quicker than I was going. It was no use trying as I took a step back; his higher speed wasn't something that I could contend with. I wanted nothing to do with this man as I had better things to worry about such as reuniting with Mirio and Nejire. I wasn't sure what else I'd do in this situation while he was here.
I spoke in a hushed voice. "Excuse me, I need to get through."
"You know why I'm here, you ran directly into my son and that won't fly past me."
"I said I'm sorry, I didn't see him there and there wasn't much I could do."
A deep growl came from him as he put a rough hand onto my shoulder. My whole body tensed at the sudden impact as it wasn't a gentle touch. I shook at what he might do next and where I'd land in this. I attempted to pry his hand off me but his grip tightened soon as I grabbed him. It didn't work no matter what I tried. The glare The Fast gave me never broke but I had to keep calm if I wanted to make it out of this alive. Was it the end of the line for me?
After a few minutes he looked up as an older man came barreling between us in a frenzy causing him to lose his grip on my shoulder. This man was short and chubby but he was bald on the top of his head. He made his way onto the stage a few feet away from us as he began to shuffle through the papers on the podium that stood there. In a blue tuxedo he has a big round badge on his chest that reads 'Mayor' in big black words. His breath was ragged and heavy. What's going on now?
The Mayor as he cleared his throat. "Excuse me, could I have everyone's attention?"
The Fast groaned and stepped away from me and closer to the stage. All the other people in the area came over and swarmed around as they noticed him. A few people brushed shoulders with me as they moved. Couldn't people see that I'm here and be nicer than this? This wasn't a race but those around me felt like I was getting swallowed alive without any way to escape. My shoulders arched as all of us were now packed together like a can of sardines. Will this nightmare of mine ever end?
My throat was dry as a bead of sweat ran down the side of my face causing me to shiver. I held onto my hood and silently prayed to myself that it wouldn't come off. The Mayor had something to say even if I didn't want to hear it but there wasn't a choice for me. Who knew what he'd say and what he'd bring to these people. I took a deep breath and prepared for the worst.
The Mayor cleared his throat. "As you all may have heard there's been a weakening of all of our powers over the past few weeks." He paused, "You don't have to worry as all of us at City Hall are working together to solve it and bring everyone peace of mind that they won't go away."
Hushed whispers floated around me before they paused again. I attempted to wiggle my way backward but I stopped moving soon after when a man behind me growled. Everything began to spin at the thought of others losing their weakening powers. What would cause such a thing? They'd been working fine for years from what I'd seen. My heart began to race as I scanned the area. Where are they? I'm sure Mirio and Nejire are looking for me and I hoped that they'd come to my rescue and get me out of here.
"I know, all of you must be in a panic over this news and dread the day if the powers might vanish. With chaos on the rise we need to remain calm so that nobody gets hurt. Nobody wants that to happen." The Mayor continued.
As he continued everyone went silent as nobody moved. It was as if the whole world stopped moving all together. It didn't last long until everyone started to shout at the Mayor as if he himself could fix the issue we were having. It was as if the gates of hell suddenly opened around me threatening to take me down. I held my arms around myself as I was starting to not keep myself and my bearings together and that wouldn't last much longer.
