Claire sat on her bed, now cleared to go home. Leon stood outside her room, waiting for her to come out. With a soft smile, she stood up for the first time in a few days, and the first thing she did was curl her toes.
Wearing a new outfit, courtesy of Leon, she left the room, holding her newborn baby in her arms.
"So, Claire, what's his name?"
"Nicholas Walter Redfield."
"Seriously?" Leon asked, raising an eyebrow.
"What?" Claire asked, planting a hand on her hip.
"Nicholas Walter Redfield?"
"Well, I like it!" Sherry said with a smile.
"It's alright."
Sherry looked back and forth between the two for a moment before asking, "so, are you guys like boyfriend and girlfriend?"
Leon and Claire turn to Sherry in surprise.
"No...we're just...uh...we actually just...the week before."
Claire smiled. "Yeah, but that would've been a helluva first date, though."
"Yeah...tch...you have no idea."
Claire made her way toward the front door of the hospital, walking outside, and taking a deep breath.
"So, where to next?" The redhead asked her two companions.
"First, I am really hungry, so we will be headed to McDonalds. You guys want some?"
Claire's eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. "Can I have a Happy Meal?"
Claire smiled, shaking her head as Leon chuckled. "Sounds like a plan. Just let me call a taxi."
Approaching the road, Leon tried to call a taxi, only for a driver to whiz by, it's driver flipping him off.
A bit bummed, Leon shrugged. "Well, he was friendly."
"Jerk."
"Eh, should have been expected." Leon takes Sherry by the hand, Claire taking the other. "But, for what it's worth, as long as we stick together, everything will be fine."
As the three made their way to McDonald's, Sherry had an idea. "Hey! You guys can adopt me!"
"Adopt you?" Leon asked as Claire giggled.
"We can get a puppy!"
"A puppy?" Claire asked, noting Sherry's enthusiasm.
"And a parrot!"
"A parrot? Great."
"I always wanted pets, but my mom said they're too messy."
"Well, she might have saved you there."
"Why do you say that?"
"Zombie Dobermans."
"Noooo! Not the puppies!"
"Yep, I fought them too. I got bit by one."
"Ouch."
"Yeah."
"So, what does everyone want? I'm buying."
"6 piece Chicken Nugget with a small box of fries and a Coka Cola," Sherry blurted with excitement.
"What about you, Claire?"
"Me? Well...I'd like a 20 piece box of Chicken Nuggets with a large box of fries and a large Pepsi."
Leon's eyes widened in surprise.
"I just gave to a baby who developed over the span of a single night. I am famished."
"Okay, fair enough."
"So, am I going to get adopted or noo?"
Claire took a moment to think about it. "Eh, sure. Why not?"
"Really?" Sherry asked.
"Well, Little Nicky would love to have a big sister."
"Yes!"
Taking a seat, the two girls watch Leon approach the counter.
"So..."
"So..."
"Can I hold him?"
"Okay, but be very careful," Claire says, gently handing Nicholas over to Sherry.
"Oh, my God! He's so adorable!"
This is going to be great. Claire thought with a warm smile.
