8:00 pmNicholas awoke under a pile heavy metal, scratched and bloodied. Blood dripped from his right temple, a stream of the crimson substance dried on his upper lip and nostril.
Feeling a rebar shard digging into his left lung, he struggled to breathe. Pulling himself forward, he found himself slowly coming out of the wreckage. Just a few feet away lies a dead officer. Next to him is a young woman leaning over him.
Listening closely, Nicholas could clearly hear the sound of teeth rending flesh from bone. As he lay there, he listened to the shameless gnawing and snapping.
Looking around, he took notice of the various flames around the room, corpses strewn about.
Climbing out of the rubble, Nicholas tries his best to walk around the woman, stepping into a puddle of blood. Walking into the next room, he found a wounded officer laying on the floor, his blood pooling around him. Walking toward the man, he falls to his feet.
The officer's eyes widen in horror, his eyes filled with regret and pity. His hand slowly reaches for his gun as he holds his wound. Removing his gun from the holster, he hands it to the boy, giving him the clips needed.
Loading the clip into the pistol, Nicholas pulls back the slide. As he stands up, the officer stops him, pointing the barrel at his head. His eyes pled with the boy, begging him to to pull the trigger.
His hands shook as he brought the barrel to the man's head. As he gazed into his eyes, he closed his own and looked away, his body trembling.
BANG!
Claire was sitting at her desk when she heard a knock on the front door. Confused, she made her way to the door. Looking through the peehole, she smiled, spotting the forms of Sherry and her husband, Leon, standing outside.
Unlocking the door, Claire pulled Sherry into a tight bear hug and reached for Leon, pulling him in. Surprised, Sherry slowly embraces her adoptive mother.
"Hey, mom."
Claire was silent, her eyes heavy with darkening bags.
"You alright, hon? You look like shit."
Claire chuckled as she pulled away. "Yeah, just Nightmares." Claire's eyes gazed into an empty void. "Recurring ones."
Sherry winced. Since Raccoon City, she'd grown accustomed to nightmares. They were not as bad as they used to be, for which she was very thankful.
"Is Nicholas doing alright? We have so much to talk about!"
Claire could very well tell that Sherry wanted to see her little brother. She'd been waiting for weeks at college, and now an adult, Sherry was allowed to leave more often without as much government oversight.
"He's in the dining room. I made breakfast. Want some?"
"What'd you make?"
"Blueberry pancakes with a couple Crêpes. Nicholas likes to cut up strawberries and bananas before adding blueberries to them and dousing them with chocolate."
"Oh, my gosh. That sounds so good."
Claire raised an eyebrow and shook her head as Sherry walked toward the dining room.
"So...what was it this time?" Leon asked, his eyes searching Claire's.
Clairr touch her temple and rubbed it with her thumb. "The same nightmare I've been having for the past couple months."
