A month had gone by fast. And as the holidays knocked closer, so did the seasonal exams which made my days even more tedious.
I stretched my arms releasing a few cracks at my stiff joints. I had been cramped up in the chair studying for a little over two hours now. I was struggling to catch up with the curriculum. I had no free days, weekends included dedicated to my tutoring sessions with Mastab.
Suddenly, the door burst open to a dishaveled Alisha.
"She's here" she whispered, her eyes welling up with tears.
"What's wrong Alisha?" I rushed to her guiding her to the bed.
"She's here" she repeated slightly trembling in fear.
"Who is Alisha? Please tell me" I pleaded guiding her to the bed
"H-heather... she's here. She's here for me" she ranted.
A week earlier, Penelope mentioned something about a discussion she overheard concerning heather causing much nuisance in the middle school section, and I only wondered if it had anything to do with Alisha.
"Elhaam, why is she doing this. I already apologized a million times, what more does she want" Alisha sobbed.
What infuriated me was that Heather was her brother's friend, yet he knew nothing about what was going on. If he paid a little more attention...
"Everything will be alright Alisha, stop crying" I assured, hugging her tightly. I would make sure it was.
After she had calmed down, I made my way downstairs, it's about time this stopped.
"Stop it Mastab " Heather let out a shriek running out of the kitchen and Mastab chasing her.
"Not after what you did " he called out chasing after her to the living room.
"Sorry for the interruption, but I need to talk to you" I interrupted their silly game.
Mastab looked at my serious expression in confusion. Of course he'd be confused, I was here to do his job after all.
"Okayyy..." She dragged in a nonchalant tone
"What is your problem?"
"Elhaam..." Mastab interjected
"Let me finish. Tell me, what the hell is your problem, emotionally assaulting a child just for you to feel superior, is that it? Is that the only way for you to feel the sense of control? You claim to be his best friend, but behind his back God knows the crazy things you do to maintain that sense of power..."
"What are you saying Elhaam?" Mastab cut me off
"Don't even pretend you'd care to know. If you'd pay attention a little more to others you'd notice how depressing Alisha has been living this past month. And you even have the audacity to invite her home, yet alone play games as though you're bunch of kids" I snapped at him.
"Do you know how insulting it is to be accused of being a bully?" Heather said
"Insulting. At least that much it is. Honestly, just stay out her life. The imprint you've left on her is enough " I retorted
"What proof do you have to support your claim? For all I care, you're just a displaced refugee child" she snide a remark with a smirk.
"Elhaam that's enough. I appreciate you caring for Alisha, but I'm her brother. If she has a problem, she'll approach me" mastab added
"I'll show you how brazen I can get for a refugee child. I could be a reincarnated version of karma, just approach her once more and you'll see. As for you Mastab, you're nothing but a huge disappointment, honestly disgusting of you" I spat enraged by the duo before me.
