Matilda Van Der Kline was a gun. Or a bomb. She was fragile but dangerous. You had to choose your words carefully around her because you wouldn't know when she would explode. Any sudden movements, and you're dead.
However, Rafe Cameron liked the thought that he was the person holding the gun. He had the power to set her off. He felt in control — which was an unfamiliar feeling to him.
Whereas, JJ Maybank knew how to properly disarm a gun. He knew the right way to cradle it and make it feel protected. He had a way with his words that made Matilda fall to her knees.
Matilda also fell to her knees with Rafe, but it was a different kind. It was a hunger. A driven need to taste him. But when they already have a past that the Pogues are unaware of, that makes it difficult for the girl that's a gun.
Rafe and Matilda are forbidden to be with each other by Matilda's older brother — Rafes best friend — which isn't the worst idea in Matilda's head as she can't bear the thought to see him, the temptation.
Matilda and Rafe hooked up once or twice at last year's parties, but Matilda's older brother caught them and shut it — whatever "it" was — down straight away.
But what happens when Rafe apologises for mistreating the Van Der Kline girl? And when a certain Maybank boy confesses his feelings for the brunette girl. What happens then?
Funny thing about life is how full circle it is. Like an invisible string; or karma.
