Peyton knew now not to look at the door now...

Last time she did, it caused her a world of trouble. And now that Meredith was waiting for her beau to walk through the door, she figured that if she looked, it would only result the same. To be fair, Meredith had already been waiting for three hours. By now, Peyton had figured that Derek wouldn't be coming at all.

Meredith's eyes shifted back from the door and down to her drink, then up to Joe who was pouring her another drink. "I actually said pick me." She cringed. "Right? I did? 'Pick me?'"

Joe shrugged. "I think it's romantic."

"It's not romantic, Joe. It's horrifying. Horror movie horrifying. Carrie at the prom with the pig's blood horrifying."

"Okay, fine, it's horrifying."

"But Carrie took out an entire senior class as revenge." Peyton chimed in. "I gotta say, I like that in a girl."

"I said pick me!" Meredith repeated, ignoring the attending's weak attempt at humor.

"That's almost as depressing as my best friend being an intern." Peyton mumbled, pressing her glass to her lips. Meredith glanced over, not at the door this time, but at her other intern friends who were playing darts. They gathered around the table, saying something low enough that Meredith couldn't hear them. But, unfortunately, the tipsy intern had gotten the gist.

"Who's pathetic?"

"What?" Cristina questioned as Peyton turned her chair around in the same direction.

"You who pretend to be my friends are calling me pathetic behind my back in front of my face. Why don't you just dump the pig's blood on me now and get it over with." She swung her arm, leaving a few nuts on the bar top. The door to the bar swung open, and this time Peyton looked as well. She wished she hadn't though, once she saw the bright red hair.

"Ugh, kill me." Peyton swung her chair back around without giving the red head a second glance.

"He's really not coming." Meredith accepted with a soft tone as she turned back around as well. Peyton placed a comforting hand on the intern's lower back while the latter nuzzled her head into the general surgeon's neck. Pagers started to beep erratically all of a sudden.

911-TRAIN WRECK

"Shit." Peyton muttered, removing herself from Meredith's touch. "Keys." Begrudgingly, Meredith pulled her car keys out of her back pocket and handed them to Peyton, who immediately tossed them to Joe.

"Don't give these back to her tonight." She ordered, pulling on her coat to get her through the heavy Seattle rain.

"What the hell are you doing here?"

Peyton questioned, watching Meredith stumble into her elevator.

"I'm an intern, I'm here to practice medicine." She slurred, positioning herself closest to the wall.

"No, you are drunk, and are not going to slice an innocent woman, man, or child open tonight." Peyton latched Meredith's arm over her shoulder, carrying her to a secluded spot of the hallway. "Here's a banana bag. Don't start practicing medicine until it is empty. You hear me?"
