AN: New cover yay! Also, minor revision to CH 2 so give that a re-read if you're so inclined. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy this extremely overdone and bloated chapter.
"So, let me get this straight. You have a Sarkaz friend named Angel and a Sankta friend named Angelica?" Lappland asked the Archosaurian as she tended to the dagger wound she inflicted on him sitting next to him on the couch.
Khamul nodded in response, about to elaborate further before she beat him to the punch.
"Did Angel's parents have a twisted sense of humor or something because... well y'know." The Lupo rolled her eyes hinting at the very obvious irony.
"We wouldn't know unfortunately all 10 of us were orphans at a very young age," Khamul said, also chuckling at the irony.
Lappland blinked at this in surprise, "You're an orphan?"
"My parents died when I was little so I was sent to one as we had no other relatives. But at one point the orphanage got shut down, and we ended up having to live on the streets for the majority of our lives. Columbia might champion itself as a nation of freedom and equality. But like any other nation out there it has its own problems. There were initially 10 of us, but as time passed slowly but surely our numbers started to dwindle. Starvation, sickness, local wildlife once we left the city, and Oripathy. Just to name a few causes." Khamul seemed to linger on that last one longer than the rest.
"By the time it was just us 3 we had formed a small mercenary band to squeeze out a living off of various contracts. As it turns out when you've been left to survive on your own for the majority of your lives you learn to develop survival skills fast." At this, he let out a breathless chuckle.
Lappland said nothing in response, only giving him a sideways glance before returning her attention to the patch job she was giving him. This was all the time it took for her to fasten the bandage too tightly. Khamul hissed in response to this, the stab wound still clearly sore.
Instantly the Lupo recoiled backward, her ears now going flat against the top of her head hearing his pained response. She narrowed her eyes concerned for his well-being and more concerned about whether or not she would hurt him... again.
"It's fine Lappland, just try to be careful." The Sniper operator reassured her.
"Sorry, I jus-"
"It was my fault for pushing the issue Lappland. I fully knew what I was getting myself into when I blocked your room. You're not the one at fault here."
The Guard operator frowned at his reasoning as she believed it to be also her fault but decided to not bring this up. Instead, she just went quiet again continuing to bandage his wound, now almost finished.
A stray thought crossed her mind at that moment though, "So, your actual name is Silas?" She felt him stiffen up at this, clearly unexpecting the question.
"Yeah." Came his muted response as he looked down at the floor despondently.
"What do you mean 'yeah?" The Lupo asked him, now mirroring his tone.
"It has just... been a while since I've heard that name from... anyone really, besides Gavial that is." The Lupo rose an eyebrow at this.
"I understand trying to keep your former identity at Rhodes Island a secret, but that sounds ridiculous that you haven't heard it in that long." The grey-haired sniper shook his head in response to this.
"For a long time, it wasn't by choice Lappland, in a sense I became Khamul and lost all previous ties to myself. But, that's a story for another time."
