'What do we do with the girl?'

'Leave her. It'll be hard enough to get Selly here to cooperate. Tie her hands, I'll take the knives.'

Idiots.

They moved closer to her and when they were close enough one got a kick in the head, making him fall back, and the other a knife thrust to her throat.

Sure the armour will protect you but the impact should hurt quite a bit. She turned her head to Ellie as a signal to run.

They staggered out of the alley and ran.

The chance of a third person following us is quite high. I wonder who it could be... But Barcrows isn't all that far now. At the end of the street to the left.

There were some people here, unlike in the park or the alley, This was one of the few places that people went to all around the clock.

They dodged between people leaving the building trying to get by as fast as possible without knocking anyone over.

Luna felt a sudden pain in her arm.

They got me! It's so close though...

Her hearing dimmed and she saw the blackness taking over her sight. No sound. Total darkness. She felt her body bump into someone and heavily fall to the ground before she fell into a deep dreamless sleep, free from all her problems.

The second it took for Ellie to catch up made her miss the moment where Luna fell.

By the time she got there the man on the floor beside her had already brushed off the stones from his palm and was looking around.

He pushed his glasses back into place and in the same movement took the dart from Luna's arm and put it in his pocket. He lifted a knee and picked Luna up, looked at Ellie (who had the energy of a stray kitten that could run away at any moment) and continued his way towards the entrance of the enormous building without a word.

The crowd that had started to gather dispersed and Ellie, like any lost kitten with an injured friend, followed at a distance.

They went into the building, up with the elevator and into a room that looked like a playroom.

He put Luna on the couch, walked out and closed the door, leaving them.

What have I gotten myself into now?! I thought I was in trouble back in the forest but now... How did this happen? Their allies though right? That guy's going to help. Right? Though maybe the other two were from here too... What now? She glanced around the room. There aren't any good hiding places. Maybe in the cupboard but that would be too obvious. She looked back at Luna. She's still got the mask on. Okay, I'll climb up there. It's not all that good a hiding place but if he turns out to be an enemy at least he won't see me straight away. She carefully climbed onto the hanging chair, across the shelf and onto the cupboard, where she pressed herself to the corner. Maybe I should have brought one of her knives with me. Ah well I'm not coming down now.

Sure enough after a few minutes the blond man came back, a redhead following behind.

As she saw Luna she dropped to her knees and put a hand on her forehead. 'Oh no... Until we get the results from the lab there's nothing we can do for her. Poor girl.' She stood up. 'Where's the child that you said was with her?'

'She was pretty scared so it's not a surprise that she's hidden.'

'Any idea who she could be?'

'Not yet. I'm gonna check out Celeste's timetable and see what she was doing before this happened. It might help knowing who was with her.'

'The girl wasn't injured was she? I'd like to give her a check up as soon as possible.'

'I think she's fine. There's no need to worry so much.'

'But-'

'Everything is okay. As usual, she's got the luck of the devil to have gotten the attention of an ally right before she collapsed.'

'Still-'

'It'll be fine. They've both survived one hundred percent of their lives so far. The chances that they'll survive are quite high.'

'You and your stupid jokes.' She smiled wearily as she stood up and gently punched him in the chest. Then she left the room, closing the door behind her.

He stood there with a sad smile for a minute. Then he threw himself into the office chair and breathed out deeply. He rolled over to the desk and turned the computer on. He took his glasses off and rubbed his eyes before doing something on the computer.

The sound of the keyboard and the mouse's clicking filled the room.

'So... Let's see... one of the descriptions fits... So you're Jinx? Hm... Elaine Mondro. That sounds familiar...' He typed and clicked. 'Ah yes. Conan. He wrote up your file for you? ..but your alias wasn't entered by him. The one who entered it was...' Click, click. '...Zackly. Well, you are around the same age. But to have entered your name he must either hate you or trust you're capable enough to survive.'

Zack. Hate me? No. That's not right. He knows I'm weak though. Wait... He promised to teach me a few tricks, how to get by in life. That's why!

'Well anyway. With only your name your file will be deleted in a months time. You ok with that?' He paused and looked over to where she was.

How'd he know where I am?

'You know, the first time Conan came to this room he sat exactly where you are. The circumstances are different this time but in some ways you two are very alike.'
