Her mother sat on the couch having a rest and browsing through Facebook after having finished cooking and vacuuming.
Ellie quietly sat down beside her trying to drown out the urge to say what she wanted for the moment. Not yet.
She sat there, rested her head on her mother's shoulder and pretended to pay attention to what she saw on the computer screen for another minute or two.
Okay... 'One of my friends texted...' She began. '...They offered me a place at their friend's pet shop.'
Her mother gave her a worried frown.
'If I work there part time I'd get to go to classes in the building for free.'
'Wouldn't you want some proper education before you start working?'
'It would be proper.'
'And don't you need some training or something to work with animals?'
'They said they'd teach me everything I need to know.'
'Mm... Do you really want to go?'
'Well, I mean, it would be free...'
'What are we talking about?' Her dad popped his head in from the other room.
'She wants to take classes beside a part time job.'
'What kind of classes?'
'I haven't decided yet. All of them are free if you work there...'
'Free? That's not right. There must be some sort of a catch. Where is this?'
'...Barcrows?'
'That's quite a way away.' Her mother remarked.
'That's it then. The rent's unaffordable.'
'It would be free...'
They shut up for a moment.
Rose toddled in. 'I'm hungry!' She exclaimed.
Later in her room, Ellie could hear them argue.
'She's only eighteen!'
'She can decide what she wants for herself. We're not helping her by keeping her here. If she wants to go, she should!'
In the end she was given permission to go. Within a week everything was arranged and it was time to leave.
On the bus she messaged the girls again about where she'd be staying, or rather, with who.
They've been wanting to move into two bed rooms for a while, but they were an odd number. Debi and Hinata had moved out a while ago and since the three that were left didn't want to leave anyone alone. Celeste claimed she'd rather be alone but they refused to listen, living alone meant that a random stranger could be assigned as a roommate.
(Wildfire) -No offence
(Wildfire) -but I don't want to be with Tina
(Terror) -Why?
(Wildfire) -you're never home
(Luna) -I like it when no one's home...
(Wildfire) -Then *you* can share her room
(Wildfire) -I'll be your roomie then Ely :D
Ellie sent a thumbs up sticker and put her phone down.
It's raining. I know... I'll have to change my name, probably, and how I look. I've been avoiding having to face the violence and stuff that go on there and now I'm moving there? It doesn't seem right. If I told K9 he'd probably understand... But it would be awkward. We'd never actually feel like siblings. And they'd get into trouble for helping me. Especially Zack. He was the one who first took me there. And he also took me along on one of those "jobs". Yeah. He'd definitely be in big trouble then.
Her phone blinked, catching her attention.
Speak of the Devil.
