Chapter 6
'Man, being in a historical event in the anime world is... something to experience.'
Billy picks a comfortable spot to sit on while telling this country's history. I admit, that I completely zoned out when he started talking. Another thing is my mind, however. Sitting on the grass, a gentle breeze, the Brooklyn Bridge in sight...
'If it wasn't for the explaining business, outsiders miiight think that we're having a picnic.'
Taking another spoonful of ice cream, I silently ponder today's activities. Valentine is at my side this time, sitting obediently like a good boy he is. I let him take a sniff of my dessert before scooping up some on my finger. He licks it up with a happy huff. I then clutched my ice cream away from him when he tried to take more.
'No, too much is bad for you.' I gave him a warning look.
He retreated back to his sitting position, the tag on his collar jingled slightly. Valentine resumes his serious face but the wag of his tail says otherwise. I scratch him behind his ears.
"Good boy," I whispered to him.
*boof.*
I continue to pamper Val with pets as I listen half-heartedly to the conversation. It's about.... The glass cup that once held the ice cream lies on the grass.
Sigh. They're still talking, huh? I'm bored. Didn't actually think that would be possible since I'm sitting next to- hmm, I don't know, the Lord of Crime? And his partner, Sherlock Holmes.
Speaking of Sherlock, between the times that our schedules aligned whenever I treated William back in the day, we talked for a bit. It was awkward at first. But then he told me all about William, about how important he is to him.
It was only polite to listen, being somewhat of a doctor after all. It's normal to hear the woes of a person. Although I'll admit, it sounds like more of a confession to a dying lover most of the time.
I guess him speaking to someone who listens helps him a bit as well. As we got closer, I got to question him and vice versa. Though I'm suspicious that he's on to me. I know he's smart. 'Detective consultant' or whatever, but is he smart enough to know my whereabouts?
'What's his catchphrase again? Something about eliminating the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth? Does dimension traveling also include in his vocabulary?'
Nonetheless, I would like to think that as time passes, our friendship deepens. His admitting to me about his vulnerability, even just a sliver, makes me think much more appreciative of him.
'Wish I had a guy like Sherlock. Like a friend or a partner.'
'...Man, if I put it that way, that means William has the best of both worlds. Lucky.'
'I mean- I already have Billy and Val. I guess it's their turn to heal.'
...Right, in William's case. I always wondered about something. I remember hearing an article about how people in a coma can hear people talking near them. If that's the case...
'Oh man, I'm screwed if he actually remembers what I've done. All the singing, talking to myself... Wait, I'm not the only victim here. Sherlock talks to him too!'
