Chapter 3: Dragon training

"Welcome to dragon training!" Gobber introduced

Astrid was at the front of the group with (y/n) next to him

"No turning back" He said

The teens looked around at the giant arena

"I hope I get some serious burns" Tuffnut said

"I'm hoping for some mauling, like on my shoulder or back" Ruffnut commented

"Yeah, it's only fun if you get a scar out of it" Astrid said

"Yeah, no kidding right" Hiccup said from behind everyone

The teens looked back at him

"Pain. Love it." He said miserably

"Oh, great. Who let (y/n)'s weaker half in?" Tuffnut groaned

(Y/n) narrowed her eyes at him

"Let's get started! The recruit who does best will win the honour of killing his first dragon in front of the entire village."

"Hiccup already killed a Night Fury, so does that disqualify him?" Snotlout joked

Ruffnut and Tuffnut Burst into laughter

"Can I transfer to the class with the cool vikings?" The teens began walking away

"Don't worry. You're small and weak... that'll make you less of a target." Gobber reassured

(Y/n) walked to the side of Hiccup

"Wouldn't that make you more of a target?" She asked

"Not necessarily. They'll see you as sick or insane and go after the more viking-like teens instead."

The twins joined the line as everyone else glared at Hiccup

"Behind these doors are just a few of the many species you will learn to fight."

The gates began rumbling

"The deadly Nadder!"

"Speed 8, armour 16" Fishlegs informed

"The hideous zippleback."

"Plus 11 stealth. Times 2."

"The monstrous nightmare."

"Firepower 15"

"The terrible terror."

"Attack 8, venom 12."

"Can you stop that?!" Gobber yelled

"And the Gronckle."

"Jaw strength 8" fishlegs whispered

Gobber placed his hand on the lever

"Woah, wait! Aren't you gonna teach us first?" Snotlout asked

"I believe in learning on the job." He opened the gates and the Gronckle burst out

The teens began dispersing

"Today is about survival. If you get blasted..."

The gronckle flew into a wall

"...you're dead."

The Gronckle got back up

"Quick! What's the first thing you'll need?"

"A doctor?" Hiccup suggested

"Plus 5 speed?"

"A shield" Astrid answered correctly

"Shields! Go!"

Everyone ran to grab a shield

"Your most important piece of equipment is your shield!"
