Chapter Six.
Three weeks flew by like the wind, it was about noon when Gloria paged Jerrica that there was some police officers there wishing to speak with her about her father.
Jerrica wondered what it could be but then she realized that the three weeks were up. She spoke, "Please let them in."
The officers entered the room and introduced themselves before they sat down in the offered seats. "Miss Benton, we're opening a criminal case on the death of your father Emmett Benton."
"What? What did the tests reveal?" asked Jerrica.
"Your father died of arsenic poisoning. It was in his system for many months. Up to nine months and his blood was tested was so high levels of arsenic, he showed all the classic signs of arsenic poisoning even though the nurses and the doctors should have noticed the signs when they saw him at the hospital." One of the officers said.
"Oh god! Eric did have something to do with my dad's death!" Jerrica exclaimed.
"Who's Eric?" the other officer asked.
"Eric Raymond, he was co-owner of the company before dad made him sell his shares back to him. His secretary that he hired told me that he had something to do with my dad's death when I fired her. But I didn't know what it was." Jerrica replied.
One of the officers took out a notepad and started to jot down everything that Jerrica had said about Eric Raymond and the secretary. "Can we have her name so she can make a statement about what Eric said or could have said around her?"
"Her name is Lydia Tenino." Jerrica gave them Lydia's home address. "What are you going to do?"
"We're going to interview her and then go to a judge to see about getting an arrest warrant if it is warranted on this." The other officer said. "But we will let you know what happens, Ms. Benton."
They got up and walked out of her office.
Jerrica picked up the phone and dialed her sister who she knew was on lunch break. "Hey can you talk, Kimber?"
"Sure, sis, what's up?" Kimber asked, heading outside to listen to her sister talk. Jerrica told her what she found out about their father. It was after the call ended, Kimber went to the guidance councilor for advice or more like comfort since she couldn't leave school yet.
Half an hour after Jerrica called Kimber, another call from her school came. They had excused Kimber from the rest of the day as she was too emotional to handle being in class that day. She hurried to the car and drove to pick up her sister and took her back to Starlight Music where Kimber started to write songs in her notebook that she wrote her songs in.
"I'm sorry that you had to come pick me up, sis." Kimber said, looking up at her sister.
"Don't worry about it, Kimber." Jerrica replied.
They both went silent as they dealt with their stuff that they did till that evening at 5pm, when the two police officers returned to let Jerrica know what has happened.
"She told you that he bought some white powder from someone and made comments about getting rid of the co-owner of the company and that he made comments about getting rid of the new co-owners so he would get full shares of the company?" Jerrica asked shocked.
"He wanted to kill us? But why, we did nothing to him?" Kimber asked.
"But we owned half of the company that he wanted to own fully. He poisoned dad and who knows what he would have done to us, Kimber." Jerrica informed her. She turned to the two officers. "Has he been arrested yet?"
