𝐑𝐄𝐈𝐍𝐀 𝐋𝐄𝐓 𝐎𝐔𝐓 a long sigh as she leaned back on the elevator wall, watching as the number ticked closer to her floor. The walk from campus to her apartment wasn't too far—a good ten minutes, eight if she power-walked—and given that she was nearly out of breath, she decided she should visit the gym a little more.
When the elevator dinged and the doors opened, she hurried out. She adjusted her backpack strap so that it wasn't completely digging into her shoulder before pulling her keys out of her pocket.
Once she was inside, she tossed her backpack on her desk chair and flopped onto her bed. It was nearly seven, and she would love nothing more than to just fall asleep for the rest of the night. Her upcoming midterm told her to do otherwise.
But she could spare thirty minutes for a nap, right? After all, she just left the office hours for her philosophy class, so she deserved a little break. Her eyes closed, and any school-related thoughts she was having was slowly fading away.
Unfortunately, that nap was disturbed only five minutes in by her phone chirping. What was less unfortunate was the fact that it was Jaime calling.
She tried her best to sound awake as she answered, "Hello?"
"Hey, Rein. You home yet?"
She leaned back against her headboard, suppressing a yawn. "Yeah, I just got back. What's up?"
"Do you wanna go for dinner?"
She glanced at the clock. Was it was seven already? With all the stress piling in her body, she had barely noticed the hunger building in her stomach.
"Sure," she agreed. "Can we study after?"
"Of course. I'll be at your door in five."
"Sounds good. Bye."
She immediately straightened up as soon as the call ended. She couldn't let him see her with this messy hair and smearing makeup. Although, he had already seen her at her worst (completely wasted and passed out on the floor). She knew he'd be punctual—he lived right next door, after all—so she had to hurry.
She quickly sat down at her vanity and grabbed her hairbrush. She brushed her dark hair, with enough vigor to rip a couple of hairs out, before pushing it behind her shoulders. She took her beauty blender and fixed all the creases that had formed from all the frowning she had done all day.
She had just finished reapplying her lipstick by the time a knock came to her door. She called out a "Coming!" as she grabbed her bag and slung it over her shoulder.
She was met with Jaime's grinning face as she opened the door. She guessed that he had taken zero time getting ready to see her; but somehow, he managed to always look cute—even when he was wasted and passed out. And to make matters worse, he was wearing a sweater that was the shade of green she absolutely loved on him.
"Hey, Ms. Baek," he greeted. "Long time no see."
"Oh, it's been forever," she chuckled, locking the door as soon as she stepped out. "It's been, what, two hours since our local gov lecture?"
"Too long," he agreed, leaning against the wall while she shoved her keys into her pocket. "Where do you wanna eat?"
She shrugged. "Wherever you wanna eat."
"Ay, we've been doing this for four years, Rein." He groaned, gripping his bag strap. "Just decide."
"You decide!"
