𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐇𝐑𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 of an alarm woke Jaime up. He groaned, keeping his eyes shut as he fumbled for the snooze button. Finally, he pressed it, and he sighed in relief as silence filled the air once more.
As his mind fully woke up, he became aware of the body sprawled across him.
Holy shit.
Holy shit.
The night before came flooding back. He had kissed Reina. She had kissed him back.
She liked him.
Well, she never actually said that. But he was pretty sure that was implied by her actions.
Mind you, they didn't do anything more than kiss. But that was more than enough for him—even now, he felt as if he were laying on a cloud. He couldn't be happier.
He almost didn't want to get up. It didn't feel real. After four years of convincing himself that he'd be alone for the rest of his life, he actually had her in his arms.
Slowly, he opened his eyes, and he had to blink the sleep away. The sunlight that filtered through his blinds was enough to let him see.
Reina's head was laid on his chest, and her arm was loosely wrapped around his waist, though her grip unconsciously tightened as he shifted. As much as he didn't want to leave, he had to get to work.
Gently, he lifted her off him, and he laid her on her back. He was afraid to wake her up—she had the afternoon shift, so sleeping in was fine—but luckily, all she did was purse her lips and curl her body a little more.
He tucked her hair behind her ear and rested his hand on her cheek.
God, she was beautiful, even when she was fast asleep. He always considered himself lucky to even be friends with her, and now, he was pretty sure he lucked out.
He pressed a kiss onto her forehead. He couldn't believe he was actually able to do that.
It took him twenty minutes to get ready—well, two minutes to put on his uniform, and then eighteen minutes to style his hair. Milagro was already at the door with her shoes on and arms folded.
Jaime grabbed a banana while Uncle Rudy put his shoes on. Given that their schedules didn't exactly align with Reina's, and that Uncle Rudy would get all fussy whenever someone other than him drove the Taco, Uncle Rudy usually drove them when Reina couldn't. It was a little surprising at first, seeing that his uncle thought he was being spied on every minute he was out of the house, but him never actually getting out of the car made sense.
Milagro had called shotgun, so he was stuck in the backseat, though he didn't really mind. All the more room to spread out and get comfy.
Despite it being seven in the morning, Uncle Rudy had enough energy in him to spew another one of his 'Big Brother is always watching' stories. Jaime, on the other hand, hardly had enough energy to even listen.
He leaned his head back, slowly chewing his banana and letting his gaze lazily follow the buildings that they drove past. He couldn't think about anything except Reina.
He was still shocked by himself. After four years of being too scared to even subtly hint that he liked her, he kissed her? Maybe it was because of his conversation with his family the night before, or the fact that she was being pretty suggestive with her own words. All he knew was that he never thought he'd have the balls to do that.
Jesus. With the butterflies in his stomach, he felt like a fifteen-year-old girl whose crush had just looked their way.
With a couple of missed stop signs and speeding through nervous yellow lights, they arrived at Victoria Kord's mansion with a few minutes to spare. Uncle Rudy said goodbye (as well as to never succumb to the 'evil rulers of capitalism'), and they headed inside.
