"Madame Anis! It's still early in the morning, so something warm to drink would be pleasant. I brought you bandrek. Would you like me to bring your scarf, too?" I said to Madame Anis, who was sitting on the front door, holding her notebook while she took in the quiet morning. I've been staying with Madame Anis and Sir Asoka for the past two weeks. It has been a warm and happy two weeks. I'd love to stay with them for a very long time and do everything I can to help them, but I don't want to be a burden to them. I placed the bandrek on the table, and we locked eyes. I noticed a bright smile and a glint in that elderly lady's eyes. She looks at me with love and affection, and she treats me extremely well from the start.
"Aren't you the sweetest thing, Kala? Sit with me and enjoy the morning. The sun hasn't come out but you've made me a drink and cleaned the entire house. Your brother must be very proud of you," she replied cheerfully. I was taken aback when she mentioned it. The whole 'brother' issue is a made-up roleplay that I created in order to hide my identity. I felt terrible lying to such a sweet lady. She noticed my surprise and apologized. "Oh, my, dear, I'm so sorry. I apologize for bringing up your past. I should have been more careful with my words the next time. Ah! How was your trip to Krita with Asoka, by any chance? Hope you enjoy yourselves there."
Phew, thank god Madame Anis can shift the subject. I need to follow up with Madame Anis to avoid exposing my non-existent brother. "I had an incredible time! I helped Sir Asoka by greeting some of his customers. Everyone was very nice and friendly." All of what I mentioned about Krita Village, however, is genuine. Large and bustling, it is. Streets filled with children playing, mothers haggling over the price of potatoes with the vendor, and blacksmiths who are already drunk in the sunlight. It's better than I expected from a Siene.
"Glad to hear that. But he has no right to boss you around! When that old man wakes up, I'm going to give him a nice scolding!" I chuckled a little after Madame Anis said that. They complement each other and have a good chemistry. I'm curious whether they have any kids. I don't want to be impolite and ask despite seeing no one else and only them in this place. Our pleasant conversation went on. The time I spent with Madame Anis was enjoyable because of the company of bandrek and the morning breeze.
It's noon, and we were just about to prepare lunch and dinner. re fine, butCooking was by far my favorite part of the day! I went to the garden to gather all the items we required while Sir Asoka was getting the appliances ready. It rained yesterday, so I need to check on the tomatoes. The rain gives tomatoes moisture, but too much moisture will turn them bad and rotten. Just in time, though! The tomatoes are properly wet and have not yet ripened. While I was at it, I looked over the other vegetables to see how they were doing. I bent my knees to get a better look at the vegetable. As soon as I checked the vegetables, I heard a shout from a woman's voice coming inside the house, Madame Anis.
"Kala, dear! Are you done picking up the tomatoes?" I yelled, "Yes! Please wait a second"
I quickly got up from my original position and hurried to enter the house. While Madame Anis knit a scarf in the living room, waiting for the food to be ready, Sir Asoka is cooking in the kitchen with a serious expression and a fiery passionate eye. To tell you the truth, the face he makes when he cooks is quite funny. I then put the tomatoes on the sink. When cooking, I usually do the cleaning and chopping vegetables. Sir Asoka is a master at seasoning things, it's always precise, never too salty nor sweet. Around half an hour later, the dish was served.
It's a simple homemade dinner that's popular in Krita, Kakap Putih Goreng With Daun Ubi Tumbuk and Sambal. My goodness, my face is drooling over the food on the dinner table. It looks too good to be true. If you were here, you can see a smile on my face, a proud and confident type of smile. We eat our dinner in harmony, if we didn't include the part where Sir Asoka was choking on a fish bone. Madame Anis and I were really worried but we laughed it off after we had taken it out. How lucky I am to have met such a kind and warm couple. Surely things won't go wrong...right?
