after swimming around some more, the teens decided to head back to the gallagher household. as they got out of the pool, amaya heard someone whistle behind her.
"woo, hey girl, you looking fineee." a (seemingly drunk) man shouted from the side of the water. amaya rolled her eyes and ignored him. he started strolling over to her, nearly falling into the pool several times. she gasped as she felt a hand on her shoulder, spinning her around.
"come on now darling, don't make this difficult for the both of us." the man smirked. amaya scoffed and pushed him off, but he quickly grabbed her hips with his large hands and pulled her closer to him.
"fuck off!" amaya struggled to loosen his grip, but he was strong. "hey, let go of me!" she yelled.
"we're gonna have some funnn." the man slurred.
"hey, she told you to leave her!" carl shouted from behind amaya.
"yeah, fuck off dude!" debbie added. the man chuckled.
"why don't you two kids mind your own business." he tightened his grip on amaya's waist. suddenly, amaya saw a fist punch the man hard in the face, leaving him with a bloody nose and kick him in the back of the leg, forcing him to the ground.
"hey, fucker, next time someone tells you to fuck off, you do it. you get me?" carl spat, looking down at him.
"y- yeah." the man stuttered, holding his bloody nose.
the noise had caused some heads to turn, and amaya looked around to see two security guards heading towards them. they did not look happy.
she quickly grabbed onto carl's wrist and debbie's hand. "hey, guys, quick!" she pulled them away and once they noticed the guards, they all started running.
by the time they got back to the house, they were all out of breath and heaving.
"that was crazy." debbie gasped between breaths.
"fuck, you okay maya?" carl raised his eyebrows and nudged the stunned girl gently on the shoulder.
"uh, yeah. that was... weird." she blinked.
"jesus, if carl hadn't have punched that dude i don't know what he would have done." debbie shook her head in disbelief.
"yeah, i do." carl scoffed, swaying back and forth on his heels.
"yeah, uh, thanks carl." amaya muttered. carl perked up.
"what was that, maya?" he smirked.
"oh, shut up dick." she shoved him on his shoulder, laughing. she was still pretty shaken up from what had just happened, but she had to say, she was grateful to carl for what he had done for her.
"so much for defending yourself, huh?" he raised his eyebrows at the girl. she rolled her eyes, slightly smiling.
"come on, let's get inside." debbie beckoned to the two teens.
"actually, i better get home. joey will be wondering where i am." amaya shrugged.
"aw, can't you stay maya?" carl grinned at her. she rolled her eyes.
"shut the fuck up carl." she couldn't help but laugh at him again. "hey, debs? text me and we can meet up again soon."
"yeah sure! do you want me to walk you home?" debbie tilted her head.
"oh, no, don't worry about it. i'll text you when i get there. okay?" amaya replied with a wave, already walking off.
"okay, bye amaya, love you!" debbie called after her.
"yeah, love you too maya!" carl called with a laugh.
"mhm, love you debs!" amaya shouted, flipping carl off.
joey didn't seem to mind that amaya had barely been home the whole weekend, in fact he was pretty happy that she was socialising already. they spent the rest of sunday afternoon watching cheesy comedy movies on the couch, one of their favourite activities.
"please can we watch mrs doubtfire next?" amaya begged.
"we've watched that twice this week already! what about happy gilmore?" joey shrugged.
amaya sighed but agreed to the movie. mrs doubtfire was her favourite, but she did enjoy joey's movies too.
"adam sandler, hands down best actor." joey gabbled, munching on some popcorn.
"uh uh, robin williams. come on, he acted like he was acting like a nanny? you can't get much better than that." amaya shook her head to prove her point and joey chuckled, amused by his cousin's fascination with the film.
"adam sandler and drew barrymore though? seriously, such a good pair." he tilted his head, waiting for his cousin to agree.
amaya hesitated. "ehhh, i guess so. but robin williams in hook? better than both of them put together. maybe." she shrugged.
"nope. never. 50 first dates, the wedding singer, that new one, blended? they should win all the awards." joey laughed.
"yep. the second place awards, you mean." amaya raised her eyebrows.
both cousins burst into fits of laughter, finding their stupid disagreements absolutely hilarious.
suddenly, they heard a loud knock at the door. amaya looked at joey, confused, and he didn't look too sure about it either. they waited a few moments until the knocks got faster and seemingly more urgent. he hesitantly got up and made his way over to the door.
as he slowly opened it, somebody burst inside, mumbling something about train prices and times. as amaya turned around, she couldn't believe her eyes.
"hey baby! come and give momma a hug." her drunken mother slurred, beckoning her over with a wonky smile.
