Zahra's POV

"What do we do?"

I heard faint voices.

"Let's check her pulse."

I felt light pressure along the right side of my neck.

"Well, her heart is beating...I have an..."

The voices were beginning to trail off and I could feel my eyes begin to roll back once more. My peaceful soon to be slumber was immediately interrupted by a cold shock to my face that sent me up gasping.

"It worked!" I heard a voice shout. I tried to open my eyes but my vision was blurry. Is this...is this water? I touch my face, wiping my eyes slowly.

"You alright, Zahra?" I hear a voice ask.

Without making a sound, I open my eyes once more and squint against the light from the windows. I put my hands up to assist.

"What happened?" I suddenly ask, not entirely sure who I was talking to.

"Zahra, you passed out on us."

I opened my eyes and saw Brooke on the right and Dante on the left of me, each staring intently at me. I looked down at my shirt. It was drenched. I needed to change. Brooke, noticing my need had spun on her knees and opened my dresser drawer in search of a top.

"Do you want to get up?" Dante asked in an odd tone. It sounded like he was talking to an old lady who needed help with something. It was the first time I've heard such a soft and concerned side of him.

I nod my head at his question and he helps me up towards my bed. Brooke comes back with a white tank top and red cardigan. I thank her with a subtle smile. All I wanted to do was rest. I felt drained. I didn't really want to do anything. Dante stepped out of the room so that Brooke could help me dress.

"You are way too quiet." I speak, letting Brooke slip my top off.

"Yeah, well I've never been that nervous in my whole entire life." She retorted, throwing me my tank top. Brooke turned around as I stripped out of my bra and traded that with a new one found stuffed inside the new top. I put all garments on and proceeded my talking.

"Can you tell me what happened? Any more details?"

Brooke began to open my bedroom door once she saw that I was fully dressed and ready. As soon as the door was open, Dante walked right in and sat next to me. Brooke sat at the other side of me and placed an arm around my shoulder.

"You were on the phone with someone....I think it was Kenji." Dante stared at the floor. My face shot towards him.

"Really? Why is my memory so-" It hit me. I remember the phone call, his voice, me falling....that dream. I shivered at the thought.

"I had this dream.." I began.

I looked up at Brooke and then gazed towards the ground.

"Kenji was...I think he was...."

"What?" Dante pushed.

"I think he was dead." I choked the words out.

"Aww no, Zahra. Don't think such crude thoughts. It was just a dream" Brooke bumped my shoulder.

"I need to call his father." I quickly jumped up to retrieve my phone from the floor.

"For what?" Dante asked.

Ignoring his question, I reached for the phone. I had no idea what to say to Kenji’s father once we were on the phone. I wondered how much he knew. Taking a few deep breaths, I went into my contacts, found him, and pressed send....

"Hello?" his voice was serious.

"Oh...is..." I stumbled.

"Zahra?" He asked, a sudden cheer seeking into his voice.

"Yes...it's about Kenji-"

"I know where he is." He sighed.

I was confused. He sounded like he was defeated.

"Where is he? We need to go get him." I stood from my bed, looking for my sneakers. Dante stood next to me, guiding me as if I might fall.

"We cannot do that." He said firmly.

"And why not?" I pressed, slipping the other shoe on.

"We'd get killed. Point blank. End of story. I'm going to hang up now." I heard the phone being taken away from his ear.

"Wait! Please wait!" I screamed into the phone.

I waited in the silence from the other end. After a long pause, I heard his voice.

"What is it?" He asked stiffly.

"Kenji told me to call you. There's a reason for that, isn't there?"

I waited anxiously for his response. I don't think I would take no for an answer. I heard one last sigh and then heard footsteps. He was walking. But to where? Looking around for my jacket, I remembered my friends were behind me. I put my hand up to cover the mic on my phone.

“Get ready.” I whispered to them. They looked at each other with faces twisted in confusion but still followed my orders. It’s good they’ve picked up on how serious I was.

“Alright.” I heard on the other end.

“Yes?” I grabbed my car keys and slid quietly past my mother’s room. In a way, I was surprised she hadn’t heard all of that ruckus we had caused. I was glad. If she found out, she’d have every person she knew aware and involved in this situation and I just couldn’t deal with all of that right now.

“Come over to my house. I want to tell you something.” Kenji’s father spoke.

“On my way.” I replied, quietly opening the front door to let my friends pass. I followed after them and carefully locked the door behind me.
