Zahra’s POV

During the whole of Mrs. Madison’s class, I couldn’t help but stare at Kenji a couple of times. Look at him sitting so straight at his desk, paying attention to everything Mrs. Madison is saying or writing on the board. He didn’t even seem to notice these three girls who kept trying to get his attention. One even stooped so far as to touch his shoulder. That didn’t even make Kenji budge, all he did was look back at the girl and turned right back towards the teacher. Talk about being rejected.

The warning bell for second period rang and all of the students shot up to leave the class room. The three girls that wanted to get Kenji attention earlier were now at his sides.

Give me a break. I thought to myself.

I was packing up my stuff to leave when Brooke and Dante stepped up to my desk. I looked at both of them and smiled sweetly.

“Stop pretending to enjoy this day” Dante spat.

I gasped, putting a hand on my chest as if I was hurt.

We all exchanged a giggle before Kenji came to my desk.

I stood up and introduced myself.

“My name is Zahra Shay, Nice to meet you.” I introduced, extending my hand to shake his.

A quick expression of confusion crossed his face before he realized what i was doing.

He smiled.

“Kenji Moon” He replied, while shaking my hand.

I turned towards my friends, introducing them.

“These are my friends, Dante and Brooke.” I made a gesture towards each of them as I said their names.

Kenji bowed at them and Dante bowed back.

“Aright, so may I see your schedule?” I asked, breaking the silence.

Kenji pulled a paper out of his backpack and handed it to me.

I took the paper from his hands and glanced over it. My eyes grew wide when I noticed that most of our classes were the same. Does it look like I want to be in the same class with mister exchange student? Well actually…I wouldn’t mind. I attempted to quickly glance at Kenji but failed. I found myself glazing from his chocolate eyes down to his well maintained chest.

Yeah..i definitely wouldn’t mind.

Brooke nudged me, bringing me back from my thoughts.

“We have to go” Brooke announced, grabbing Dante’s arm and escorting him out.

“Don’t hurt him.” I called towards them, snickering to myself.

I turned towards Kenji who was staring straight at me.

I blinked and smiled, hoping to warm the situation up a bit.

“So, welcome to McKinley High School, where everyone’s dreams come true.” I joked, slowly making my way towards the door as students walked into the class.

Kenji facial expression did not change, even the slightest.

“Alright!” I said quickly, noticing the fail of my joke.

“Follow me, our next class is Biology.”

As soon as we stepped out into the hallway, the bell rang. Great, class has started.

I looked at Kenji who was looking straight ahead.

Is he even paying any attention to me?

“We’re late.” I decided to say, hoping to get some kind of response from him.

Kenji looked at me and nodded his head.

“That means we’re going to be in trouble.” I continued

Kenji nodded again, still no verbal response.

Ok, so he doesn’t like me. Point taken. I rolled my eyes to myself and stopped in front of our second period class.

“After you.” I insisted, moving my hands towards the class.

Kenji shook his head.

“No, after you.” He spoke finally.

Was he challenging me?

“I insist, you go ahead of me.” I fought back.

Kenji took one step towards me.

“You are a female, ladies first.” He replied, stepping sideways from the door to let me pass.

Something fluttered in my stomach. I smiled politely before stepping into class.
